My 18 year old son and I stayed for 3 nights.
The hotel, although down a narrow, winding lane is in the perfect location, a ten minute walk, (if a little steep) to the beach.
Our twin room had 2 windows, one with a view of the sea, the other overlooking the countryside. The room was spacious and elegantly furnished with a full size TV, fridge, beverage tray and kettle, and a large en-suite bathroom. A sitting area by the sea view window and the ironing board and iron were bonuses as was the fact that the hotel is no smoking.
The breakfast menu promised hot or cold meals and eggs cooked in a variety of ways.
The rooms were serviced daily to a high standard.
The gardens are well kept, and there is a carpark, although this gets over full at busy times.
The overwhelming smell of plug in airfresheners is unbearable; they are EVERYWHERE. We switched ours off, only to find it turned back on, so we unplugged it, and it was subsequently plugged back in.
HOVEVER, my main complaint is that.the promise in the brochure of a warm welcome is VERY misleading.
Our booking was made to co-incide with that of my parents, who have a different surname, a fact that was pointed out at the time of booking. When we arrived the proprietress called me Mrs x (my parents name) and I explained politely that I was Mrs Fitzpatrick. This was met with a look of thunder and audible loud sighing, followed by slamming down of keys, pens, etc.
From this moment the proprietress was 'blessed' with this unfortunate attitude, responding to all questions with one word answers - YES or NO (Usually the latter!!)
Eg. When I asked if there was any chance of us having 2 rooms and paying the single supplement we were told 'NO'. End of conversation.
When I asked if we could have the large window open any wider, we were told 'NO',. End of conversation.
The extensive breakfast menu looks impressive but when my son asked for poached rather than fried egg with his English breakfast he was told 'NO'. End of conversation.
On one occasion our door which I had locked in the morning had been left unlocked following servicing. When I mentioned this no apology was offered. End of conversation.
On our departure we were neither asked if we had enjoyed our £284 stay, nor wished a safe journey home. I was not even thanked for my payment, merely 'here's your receipt'. End of conversation.
In conclusion, a comfortable hotel, but the proprietress has no interpersonal skills and lacks any warmth, flexibility or willingness to please.
Will I stay again? NO - end of conversation!
