We stayed 7th - 9th Aug '09 We won the weekend from filling out a questionaire on a previous weekend. Our stay was excellent, room was a larger one with lovely decor. Very clean. Staff were all really friendly, helpfull and polite. Food was great. We used the outdoor pool even though the weather was not brilliant, it was really warm, could have stayed in there all day! We felt that although parts of the hotel are in need of decoration, renovation, the hotel is definitely improving. Will definitely go there again and would recommend to others.

Thank you for your response, we really appreciate the feedback. It's lovely to hear that you think we are on the up and over the next 12 - 18 months we are hoping to refurbish all of the bedrooms and some other remedial works. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Grosvenor in the not too distant future.

I would recommend this hotel if we were a couple ..As thete are lots of stairs, up to rooms, down to breakfast hall etc it wasnt really suitable for our non walking 13 month old.
it was nice enough although we had one of the old unfurnshed rooms so it was very dated and in need of modernisation.
The staff were fine.
We didnt get to use the outdoor pool as the weather wasnt great for it but we did use the indoor pool but a little put out that there is a 50p fee for a towel!
Breakfast was good too

Thank you for your review, we really appreciate the honest feedback. I will speak to our Recption Team as to why you were allocated a room at a higher point of the hotel, although I think it was that there was nothing available in a lower part of teh building. The next 12 - 18 months are particularly exciting here at the Grosvenor as we are about to embark on a refurbishment of all the hotel bedrooms and some aspects of the public areas so please do watch this space. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Grosvenor in the not too distant future.

I booked this room through the Conference Centre booking service and heving seen the publicity photos of the hotel looked forward to our stay. Sadly from the moment of our arrival my heart sank . The hotel is well located but very scruffy and sad looking. Our room was located on the third floor at the top of a flight of stairs which had the smell of old cabbages and stuff much worse. Although not exactly dirty the over use of woodchip wallpaper and general wear and tear had made the room very jaded and unwelcoming.
The window was almost at floor level which was not so much of a problem as it overlooked the main road outside the hotel. The en suite bathroom was equally appalling with a combined mixer tap and shower unit over a sunken corner bath. How exotic I hear you saying but it was sunken to floor level which made it almost impossible to get into. The tap would produce hot water or cold water but absolutely nothing in between

That evening after visiting the town centre we returned to the hotel and were kept waiting twenty minutes for our room key by the reception guy whilst he negotiated with a telephone enquiry from a customer trying to make a future booking a large party into the hotel

Next morning we endured a breakfast offering of over exposed cornflakes cold bacon , cheap sausages (also cold) and eggs cooked in antique oil

Despite all this most of the staff were friendly and helpful My advice to them is get out of there before you become as awful as the surroundings they are being forced to work in

Finally having read the reviews on this hotel there must either be another Grosvenor Hotel in Torquay or the Grosvenor Hotel must be writing the reviews for themselves as I only recognised the bad reviews as accurate

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the hotel and I'm sorry that your experience didn't come anywhere near your expectations. We have worked very hard over the last few months on developing the team here and hence the favourable reviews that you mention. The next 12 - 18 months will be very exciting for us as we will indeed be investiing the property and deveoping all of the hotel's bedrooms as well as general upgrades around the hotel as necessary. All older hotels require constant improvements and modernisation and the Grosvenor is certainly in that category at the moment. Customer service has been our focus whilst negoiating funds to develop the overall product and I'm pleased to say that the vast majority of our guests recognise this and are happy with what we currently offer, however we will not be satisfied until we are exceeding our customer expectations.

The hotel is situated in a road with many other hotels. When we arrived we were not impressed with the outside as it needed some maintenance work namely painting..

When we arrived at our bedroom our hearts sank. The bathroom was large but had no curtains at either of the frosted windows which faced on to the road.
The twin beds were very close to the ground and we both suffered back ache in the mornings. We did think about leaving but decided to stay rather than lose our money. The television was high on the wall and you had to lie on the bed to view it. It cut in and out. We caught sight of other bedrooms as we passed and they were of higher standard.

The food was o.k. and the lounge was large and comfortable. There was entertainment in the evening presumably for the coach parties. The staff were fine

Thank you for leaving a review on this site regarding your recent stay at the hotel, I am a little concerned that if you raised these issues with the hotel staff we did nothing to try to rectify your issues. I am very sorry about this but I have no record of any comments made by yourselves. We would very much like to opportunity to renew your faith in the Grosvenor Hotel and please do get in touch directly in order for us to discuss it further.

We stayed at the grosvener hotel on the 21st - 23rd, we have visited the hotel several times for Salsa events but always stayed with friends, we decided to treat ourselves and stay in the hotel for the weekend, it was very busy as there was a wedding on the same day as the salsa event, this caused a probelm with parking but the hotel very quickly acted and paid for us to park on the near by car park. Staff are very helpful the food was great and our room was very clean. the pool was fab, will be staying again on the next salsa event
