We stayed here as part of a group, so had no choice of room. My first impression was of the lift. It had a concertina metal door, no back – you could see the wall, and was so small it only fitted our 2 children and the suitcases. Another guest had a mobility scooter and had to get off of it and stand it up sideways in order to be able to use the lift! There was no way I was going in that lift, so I took the stairs. The only problem was that the stairs only follow the lift to the first floor and do not follow the lift up to the 2nd floor. The layout, due presumably to additions to the original building, was like a rabbit warren, making it hard to locate my children, never mind to find the room.
Our room was a reasonable size, long and thin, with the bed strangely dwarfed at one end. There was a new carpet, but the floor underneath it was a bit bumpy. To my dismay there was no bath. Having said that, it did have a wonderful, newly decorated, beautifully tiled, very modern, clean looking and efficient and fairly large shower. The wash-hand basin was a trifle small and it felt awkward bending over to use it as the shelf stuck out over it. There was a large wardrobe, with lots of hanging space, but a lack of drawers. There was only one tiny drawer at each bedside. – and the bible practically filled one of them. The other furniture consisted of what looked like 2 old TV/ video stands which were open fronted, so nowhere much to put belongings, especially anything you did not want on display.
The room faced the road, and a junction which was at the bottom of a hill, and quite noisy with cars revving to get up it. There was also a slight droning noise from something like a kitchen outlet / air con unit. The double bed felt small and hard and I could feel every movement of my husband – not the best night’s sleep ever. However, we were not really disturbed by other guests as we were tucked away in a corner – no long corridors with people walking past.
Dinner was included in our package. The service was reasonable, as was the food. Very edible, but lacking a little in presentation, hardly Masterchef. Some of the staff did not have English as a first language, and there were a couple of difficulties in the orders where things got lost in translation. Nice views from the bar, restaurant and ballroom and a lovely terrace overlooking the bay.
Breakfast was altogether a far more pleasant experience. There was a plentiful buffet, with cereals, fruit etc and lovely large croissants, which did not seem to run out, as some places do and a good choice of cooled juices. Hot food was brought to order and this was all delicious.
It is in a good position with easy access down to the small bay which it overlooks.
If we were to stay at this hotel again I would opt for a room with a sea view, assuming this would be quieter.
