“Needs some TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This hotel has a lovely reception, bar and restaurant and ballroom, where we had a dinner/dance with a meal for about 200 people, the meal we had was very nice although a lot of peoples food was cold.
Our room had 2 bedrooms which was great although we didn't need the 2nd bedroom, lovely big comfy bed, nice tv and view over the sea.
The bathroom let it down terribly, broken blind, very cold and very very tatty. Not a place to hang round in ! Rooms defo need tlc.
Pool area needs updating, strange smell when going downstairs to leisure club/nightclub in the basement ?

“GREAT HOTEL”

As a tour coach driver I stay at hotels all over Britain and Northern Europe. Although Torquay is not one of my favourite destinations, I was very impressed with the staff, quality of food, room size, cleanliness and location of the hotel. We arrived with 3 coaches and 140+ guests who were checked in very quickly and efficiently. There were no room problems or requests to change rooms. As mentioned the food was excellent and the staff and management went out of there way to look after everyone. In fact, after this experience, I am booking a personal holiday for my family later this year at this hotel as I know we will have a great time.Thank you for making this trip a great success

“We were disappointed because of the staff and hotel needs TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This hotel is in a great location but unfortunately needs some TLC and some friendly staff.

On arrival we were gobsmaked to find we had to pay £7.00 per night to park our car which in my mind is extortionate and should be flagged up when you book.

The changing rooms in leisure are awful in need of a complete refurb very very diasppointing for the Barcelo group.

Our room had threadbare carpet between the bedroom and the bathroom which if you weren't alert you could easily trip on. For some reason they have their glass bins emptied at about 5:30am and this woke us up.

Finally before we arrived we had rung up and added continental breakfast to our booking no problem on checkout we found we had been charge for 2 x full breakfasts each morning when we queried this the receptionist went off to find out how much this should be on return she informed us they did not offer continental breakfast, i explained that was all we had and had not been told when we called to add continental breakfast that this was not possible, after some huffing and a conversation with the duty manager she reduced th price down but made the comment " we will do it this time but be aware we won't do this next time" i was floored, we hadn't been told we couldn't have continental breakfast only or that if we did we would have to pay fuill english price why was this our fault. We left the hotel that morning with a bitter taste in our mouth and very shocked with this service from what it supposed to be a good hotel chain.

“Top class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We went out of season (Nov) when the hotel wasn't fully booked. Having previously joined the Barcelo Leisurebreaks club for £20 (for life) we were entitled to an upgrade if available, late checkout and free newspapers. I had booked a double deluxe room DBB and when checking in asked if the upgrade was available. We got a suite. A suite like never before in any other hotel I have stayed. When we opened the room door we were faced with a long corridor off which was the four poster bedroom, large bathroom and enormous living room with dual aspect sea views and balconies on bedroom and living room. These were out of action for maintenance but we were advised of this at reception. It was November afterall, unlikely that we were going to be sunbathing. In summary, the room far exceeded what we expected or hoped for. The standard of the food in the restaurant was equally excellent as was the service from the staff. We also used the spa facilities and could not fault this hotel in any way. I just wish it was closer to home so I could go again without a 6 hour drive.

Room Tip: we had a corner suite which meant we had a sea view and balcony from the bedroom and living room.

“Is not a top quality hotel..”

Well what can I say.. Except total rubbish.. Checking was good no complaints there. Asked for a sea view no problem. Got to our room and bang total dump. Ripped wall paper, curtains and carpets. Mould in bathroom, cobwebs everywhere... Horrible.. First nights dinner was included this was an ok standard but nothing special.. Next day at breakfast we arrived and waited to be seated after 10mins and nit having anyone tick our name off and seat us we decided to just seat ourselfs. During breakfast one of the waitresses came over and asked who seated us? To which we explained about the wait and said we seated ourselves, she then spoke to us like 5year olds and said that we should have waited until being seated no matter how long we were waiting and that next time nit to sit at a table for 4persons.. Very rude and made me feel embarrassed as she said this rather loud and in full view of the other guests. We complained to reception straight away and was informed that the manager will be informed. Nothing was done..... We decided to use the pool. When we arrived we decided to use the spa pool which was very hot so could only stay in for a few minutes. We then went to use the steam room but once inside noticed it wasn't working so went and informed a member of staff who just said yeh that happens all the time. Total rubbish.. All
In all overpriced, undercleaned and in need of major refurb..
