“More like a hostel than a hotel. So dissapointing.”
We were in Plymouth for our son's passing out parade. 11 of us booked in, aged from 3 to 50's. Our choice was made on recommendations in the Naval Base accommodation book. The reception and bar areas were dirty, smelly and extremely dated. We were lead along a cold tatty corridor to the "family accommodation". There is no lift, the stairways are more like correctional facility access. The bedroom was basic, although the bed was comfy and the linen clean. The furniture was covered in rings from cups, the door handle was hanging off, the door frame was cracked and coming away from the wall. The bathroom was depressing, black stains on the ceiling, black mould stains on the tile grout and silicone, fungus on shower head. We stopped for 2 nights and there was no room service. The beds were neither changed nor made, the bathroom was not cleaned. The staff, although limited, were lovely and kind. My thoughts were that they were embarassed about the standards of this "hotel". The communal loos near the restaurant were filthy. There were half empty beer bottles, toilet paper and urine all over the floor. This was breakfast time. Not somewhere we wanted to let our small grandchildren use. Breakfast was plentiful and dining room bright and cheery. This place needs a serious overhall, more staff, hotel management change. Thankfully I will never need to go back. Very dissapointed, real low point of weekend.
