To put it simply, my 2 night stay at the Berkeleys of St James was superb. Having never stayed at a guest house before, I have to admit I was slightly apprehensive. As soon as I stepped into Berkeleys, my fears were put at ease. I was met by Jackie, who showed me to my very well appointed, and spotlessly clean room. The bathroom had nice little touches, such as toiletries and little storage shelves, which are often absent in hotel bathrooms. My room superseded my expectations, and was far more superior to many chain hotels I have stayed at in the past.
In the morning, I was met by Jeff for breakfast, who very proficiently managed everything. Freshly brewed coffee arrived, and there was a plethora of fruits, cereals, yoghurts, fruit juices, etc available. Cooked breakfast was fantastic, using quality ingredients, and far superior to most hotel breakfasts I have had in the past.
The location of the guest house was in a quiet side-street in the Hoe area, and you can purchase daily visitor car parking passes from the guest house, which also work throughout Plymouth – very convenient and a big money saver. Just be sure to follow the instructions on the card and park in the correct spaces, not the ones only for Plymouth residents. Jeff and Jackie have some great tips on places to visit and places to eat. All in all, a wonderful experience.
