“Not 4* hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The rooms need an update we had a ceiling fan one would have thought a/c would be in a hotel rated 4*. There was no heating in the bathroom not even a heated towel rail. The staff were pleasant and the food was ok .. Had better/ had worse. Location is good only a short walk to city centre shops and 15mins to the barbican. The room we had was facing the road but we were not disturbed by traffic noise.

“Dated but good location for center”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Last min booking via web -£49.99 room only - additional £6 to park! Room decor was dated but functional . Problem with noise level - not from general city sounds - but the sainsbury carpark fans. I asked to be moved but was told all the double were only on that side of hotel. Got the impression staff did not care as it was cheap web booking. Good location for city centre though and easy to find.

“Nice stay pleasant staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

The rooms were clean and the staff were attentive with a good level of service. The hotel is right next to Sainsburys in the city centre. Bit Noisy but and central for the city, there is lot to do in close proximity without having to drive.

“A very satisfactory stay! And a Happy New Year too!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I've stayed at this Copthorne before, on business, so when we decided to go away for New Year's Eve I was delighted when I found a good deal for this hotel. I just hoped that my wife would be be disappointed.

She was not. I was not. We were quickly and efficiently checked in, and found our rooms to be clean and comfortable. Although it's not in the most modern style, we found it fine. So, the carpets in the hall are a bit tired, but the hotel is really quite nice - even if the layout is a bit quirky! Our room was well decorated and very tidy, it was quiet and had a good view over the city - which gave us a delightful opportunity to watch the fireworks at midnight.

The hotel is located in the city centre, within walking distance of the Hoe, The Barbican and Citadel and most of the shopping area - and there are good restaurants and bars in the city if you want the nightlife.

Breakfast was really quite good, and the staff were pleasant and friendly throughout.
A downside? Parking - there is not really enough parking for a hotel this size and it's round the back, accessed from one of the shopping streets. Easy when you know how, though!
I'll go back, without hesitation.

Room Tip: Arrive early to get a parking space. And to make use of the shopping area. Go to the restaurants - I...

“Nice but”

Nice hotel but I found its location lacking with cramped underground parking and having a room overlooking Sainsbury’s car park there was a noise issue. OK for my use as a business trip. Room service was quick and meal was nice I have put a short video of my room on YouTube if you want to check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKYSTwhfgXk

Room Tip: Think if you want to say in city center
