Hello all.
Went to the Astor Hotel on an online concession when going to see my Girlfriends family. Firstly, the staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. Joseph, the owner was a top card and when we arrived offered us a discounted rate on upgrading our rooms. Which we did. The room we stayed in - the suite with the jacuzzi was very nice - even if I didnt think the jacuzzi was all it was cracked up to be. The room was spacious, clean, serviceable, and quiet. And I must say, the bed was extremely comfortable. The food in the hotel was good if not great. It is in a great location to Plymouth City Centre for shopping and has a nice seaside beach walk at the top of the road. Don't get me wrong - this isn't the ritz by any means but then it doesnt need to be. In regards to parking, you pay for your parking permit and get your spot. We were concerned that when we took the car, we would never be able to park again, but were pleasantly surprised. Saying that, we went out of season in Jan and I could imagine it being much more problematic in high season. However, if I'm being honest there is nothing negative that I can say about the hotel. I could make a few observations on the pessimistic side, but that would be merely nitpicking. We were in the restaurant chatting to Jospeh one evening and I described the hotel to him as "A Classy Fawlty Towers without the screw-ups"...with relief on my part, he found it quite amusing and didnt try drowning me in my soup.
Nice place, good friendly staff and good location. I doff my cap to you, Joseph and crew...
Room Tip: The room we upgraded to which was one of the suites was good. But again by no means the greatest roo...
