“weekend treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Stayed at the Astor for a family birthday, from arrival to departure we were treated with courtesy,
the staff were. friendly informative without being intrusive. The hotel was a very short walk from the Hoe with great views of the sea. From booking at reception to dining in the restraunt the staff always provided the personal touch, the chef even came out to discuss the menu with guests. We dined in the restraunt with family and a couple of friends who are locals and we were all impressed with the meal and service. The Hotel owner also chatted to several residents and was a great raconteur and a knowledgeably historian on Plymouth . The room was a delight just right for weekend and unlike some rooms very warm essential in this chill

“Impressive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I stayed at the Astor and was very impressed with everything. The moment i walked in the staff were brilliant, very helpful when i asked anything to do with the hotel or area.
The room was beautifully clean with fresh white crisp sheets. oh and the bed was very comfortable. After my good nights sleep, up for breakfast, again the staff all cheerful and helpful. The breakfast was very tasty.
Later when i arrive back i had a quick drink at the bar and then had dinner, the menu was great, lots of choice and when i recieved my food, again i was impressed, very yummy, i even had desert.
My over all stay at the Astor was impressive (as I have said) and i would recommend and most definatly go and stay there again. Keep up the good work 10 out of 10 for the Astor staff.

“weekend break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Hotel staff were excellent, very helpful and polite. Room, we upgraded to exec suite for a further £30 per night, and the room was clean, warm and comfortable, although the shower was disappointing!

Room Tip: I wouldn't upgrade before testing out the shower

“Quaint, Pleasant and Friendly - Does the job well.”

Hello all.

Went to the Astor Hotel on an online concession when going to see my Girlfriends family. Firstly, the staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. Joseph, the owner was a top card and when we arrived offered us a discounted rate on upgrading our rooms. Which we did. The room we stayed in - the suite with the jacuzzi was very nice - even if I didnt think the jacuzzi was all it was cracked up to be. The room was spacious, clean, serviceable, and quiet. And I must say, the bed was extremely comfortable. The food in the hotel was good if not great. It is in a great location to Plymouth City Centre for shopping and has a nice seaside beach walk at the top of the road. Don't get me wrong - this isn't the ritz by any means but then it doesnt need to be. In regards to parking, you pay for your parking permit and get your spot. We were concerned that when we took the car, we would never be able to park again, but were pleasantly surprised. Saying that, we went out of season in Jan and I could imagine it being much more problematic in high season. However, if I'm being honest there is nothing negative that I can say about the hotel. I could make a few observations on the pessimistic side, but that would be merely nitpicking. We were in the restaurant chatting to Jospeh one evening and I described the hotel to him as "A Classy Fawlty Towers without the screw-ups"...with relief on my part, he found it quite amusing and didnt try drowning me in my soup.

Nice place, good friendly staff and good location. I doff my cap to you, Joseph and crew...

Room Tip: The room we upgraded to which was one of the suites was good. But again by no means the greatest roo...

“Two night stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

My husband and I stayed for two nights while visiting relatives in Plymouth for a birthday party. We have stayed before and found it comfortable but this time the room was a little cold. I had asked for a fan to be put in the room as I sometimes get hot at night but they had put a fan heater there which we were quite glad of. Last year we stayed for the New Year party which we really enjoyed but this year it had been cancelled at the last minute, which was a shame. On the whole the hotel was up to a good standard though very quiet in comparison to previous stays. We didn't have dinner but breakfast was very good and when I wanted a snack the barman fetched me a sandwich very quickly and without fuss.
