Just returned from the Choughs Nest after being whisked away by my husband for our 10 year anniversary...it was the perfect choice.
We were checked in swiftly and shown to our room with our host carrying my bag up-considering he didn't know I was 5 months pregnant this was just perfect!
We were booked into room 2...the 4-poster...which has stunning views, even on a dull February afternoon! The bathroom was very spacious with a bath and shower and lovely fluffy white towels. Not many toiletries but we'd brought our own and Im sure if we'd forgotten something our hosts would have sourced it for us. Flat screen tv with freeview-perfect size for the room...hubby very happy. Lovely comfy bed and the room was toasty warm. Very spacious too with a dressing table, wardrobe and seating area...lovely.
The lounge was lovely with great seating area and the best bit...the lovely roaring fire every night...great!! As we appeared to be the only guests staying on the Friday night, I was impressed that it was lit just for us. They even had some books...I borrowed one to read and was encouraged to do so-thank you...I did read it and return it!!
Breakfast was lush both mornings, everything was piping hot that was meant to be and catered to my fussy egg eating requirements due to pregnancy. We were offered extra toast, had fruit to start followed by cooked breakfast...the menu catered for all breakfast requirements and any requests were catered for and more. Lovely attentive service...which I notice some reviewers criticising...I have to say I never felt uncomfortable once despite the more formal approach and nothing was too much trouble...perfect service I thought!!
We didn't sample the dinner menu preferring to venture into the area. Despite being out of season a few places were open and we found options to suit us in Lynmouth and we ate both nights at The Rock House...highly recommended.
Our hosts recommended some lovely places to visit on the Saturday and for our drive back to Bristol...highly recommend visiting Watersmeet...beautiful spot complete with tea room...yum! Valley of the Rocks was spectacular and there are loads of lovely walking spots. Our hosts helpfully provided us with a great map which came in very handy.
All in all, a lovely, relaxing, chilled out weekend away with a beautiful room to rest and sleep in and perfect, attentive, unintrusive service...thank you...we'll be back to stay...and for a go on the furnicular railway, which was closed due to renovation!!
