“Relaxing Foodie Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

My wife and I have stayed at The Lynton Cottage Hotel 5 times in the past 7 years and will return again because the place has some of the best views and wonderful food. The name 'Cottage' suggests old and quaint and it is. However, arrive stressed from your journey , park up and get out of your vehicle, look at the magnificent vista then walk the few yards to the hotel entrance and once inside look back outside and that stress removing view is what you will see from so many rooms in the hotel. You will not experience a 'modern' hotel but one that is there to please you and give you a relaxing break.Food is cooked to order and is quite exceptional. The wine list is varied and you are not overcharged for what is offered against hotels that try but cannot offer the very high standard of cuisine that is cooked here. The owners are pleasantly 'laid back' and do not insincerely 'fawn' over you but they will try meet all your requirements and make your stay most pleasant and relaxing.

Room Tip: When making reservations try to ask for a sea view

“We'll be back”

Spent 3 nights at this lovely old hotel. The location and views are spectacular. Our room (5) had a panoramic view over Lynmouth bay with floor to ceiling windows so you could just sit and gaze at the view. The room was nicely decorated with everything you'd expect and a corner bath that we didn't! The room was warm and clean, everything worked, the shower was great and there was plenty of hot water.

The owners Dave and Heather are extremely professional and welcoming with that natural ability to gauge how you like to be treated, they got it spot on.

The food was fantastic, with a nice selection of freshly prepared food, everything is cooked to order, so you have to wait in the nice bar for a few minutes before being taken to your table, it's worth the wait. The bar has a good selection of drinks, but a relatively small selection of wines; however everyone we tried was excellent, so it really wasn't an issue.

If you like the Modern, regimented, clinical hotels of the large chains, Lynton Cottage probably isn't for you. But if like character, location, excellent food and friendly service, you should have a very enjoyable stay

“My return was perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

Once again I arrived at the Lynton Cottage Hotel and had a great stay. I like going to this Hotel because when I want to get away from the rat race and just relax and switch off this Hotel is perfect for me. I like the great views from my window and just wanting to relax in the comfortable lounge & bar. These comments to exclude the fact that this Hotel is in the most beautiful part of the world. I would like to say thank you to David and Heather and all the members of their team. I had a lovely holiday thanks to their attention to detail and that they looked after me so very well. One criticism is that not enough seasoning in the food but on the whole the food is the best. Keep up the good work and I will be back very soon

“Disappointed”

Sadly this ideally situated hotel did not live up to the image given by the web site. It was tired and faded, and far from warm and friendly. When we arrived we were not made to feel welcome ( the word was never uttered). We were not properly shown our room, or around the hotel. The bar was cold and unwelcoming as was the small guest lounge. The owners did not seem aware of the missing ambiance, and may well benefit from some friendly guidance.

On the positive side it was clean, and the breakfast excellent. But the price charged was too high for the service provided. Too close to Fawlty Towers for us to go back.

Made very welcome by charming hosts. Had upgrade to a superior room which had a fantastic view of the sea and surroundings. Food was excellent and very reasonable price wise. Assuming it doesn't change hands would love to return.
