“A gem of a place - highly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

We cannot see how anyone can give this hotel a bad review because our stay was fantastic. My partner and I stayed here on the first of our three-day getaway and wish we had stayed here all three nights. It is run by a young couple who gave us a warm and friendly welcome and, in our opinion, they are doing an excellent job! Our room was outstanding; it was clean and fresh plus it was lovely and warm! The bed was lovely and comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. Unfortunately Beggars Roost Inn was not open but they recommended The Fox and Goose in Parracombe. This was an excellent recommendation and appeared to be very popular with the locals. We were again given a warm and friendly welcome here; both the food and service was outstanding - highly recommend this place if Beggars Roost is closed. Breakfast is available from 9am. There was a selection of fresh juices and cereals available which were all laid out on the table in the dining area; we chose to have the english breakfast and this did not disappoint. It was well cooked, nicely presented and very tasty. There was more than enough tea and coffee available as well. Yes, the couple who run it are young but they are friendly, welcoming and very professional. They have a good knowledge of the local area, are available if you need to ask anything but more importantly they do not "hover" over you every minute of your stay. We will certainly stay here again and both look forward to it.

“Terrible experience I would not want to stay at this hotel again EVER!!”

Firstly I would like to express that Lynton itself is a beautiful place to visit and I would highly recommend the area - just do not stay at Exmoor Manor. We were on our way to Cornwall for a week's holiday & thought we would break the trip up so booked a family room as we have a 3 1/2 yr old and a baby.

Starting with few positive points about the experience: The food in the pub next door was fantastic and the two people who run the bar were really nice; however, they clearly have no funds to improve the hotel which needs a complete overhaul & damp proof course and they are clearly embarrassed by the state of the rooms. Our food was removed from the bill by way of compensation which was nice, but it did not make up for the disgraceful standard of the rooms.

In my opinion this hotel is not fit under any circumstances for families. On arrival we were shown to our room & all the windows were open so we dumped our bags, shut the windows and went off to explore the area. When we returned to the hotel we were hungry so went straight to the pub next door, had a couple of drinks & ate. When we returned to our room habing let it fester for a cople of hours with the windows closed -the room stank of damp & at closer inspection we realised it was was dirty and completely unhabitable. We were moved to a marginally better room but it still stank. We had no choice to stay there as it was late and our children need to sleep.

We woke early because of the children & decided to go & get breakfast then leave. Unfortunatley all the staff were in bed and the bell you were supposed to ring to get attention - didn't get any attention! Eventually around 9am a man appeared & served breakfast which was ok. We were gone form the hotel by 9.30 & will never return again.
All of us suffered coughing after we left and felt chesty - we believe this was down to the damp/mould in the rooms, all our clothes, suitcases etc held the smell - disgusting is the only way to describe this experience. If you have a family do not stay here!!!

“SImply awful!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2006

We stayed here in December and only stayed for one night rather than the originally-planned three nights as the 'hotel' did not meet our standards whatsoever. Two of the rooms had been recently painted, however everything else in the rooms were very dated, cheap 1980's melamine wardrobes and drawers that had been 'attractively' stencilled with blue paint.
Not only were they dated, they did not seem to have been vacuumed for a long time as they were incredibly dusty.
The breakfast that was served in the morning was inedible and some of which you had to make yourself with a Tesco Value loaf of bread and a toaster!
The owners seemed nice enough upon meeting them, however one family member thought it was appropriate to have a noisy party at 2am in their part of the house, keeping everyone awake for three hours. Upon our departure the next morning, he did not seem to be particularly concerned that we were annoyed!
All in all, there is a very good reason why this 'hotel' is not registered by the tourist board - if it was to be given an offical rating it would barely reach 1 diamond.
