“November Getaway”

We read the reviews and so made the decision to stay at the Lorna Doone House. We arrived on a fairly grey afternoon but we're immediately welcomed and offered hot drinks. The room was lovely, warm and spotlessly clean and overlooked the river. We did not have a meal at the hotel as we only stayed the one night as we were due to be in Plymouth for the next evening, but reading the reviews will eat here next time.

There were excellent touches: complimentary bottled water, high end coffee and tea (not the usual tasteless type) and like another visitor Sharon offered us the ability to leave our car in the car-park even after we were checked-out as there were no immediate challenges for the space (although understandably I suspect that this may not be possible in the months when all the rooms are booked out). We did borrow one of the huge array of DVDs as we had been out walking all day, but quickly fell asleep to it due to the comfortable bed; we will definitely be back for another visit!!!

Room Tip: If you like the sound of the river, a room at the front of the house is wonderful.

“Fantastic location and hospitality”

Sharon is this place - or vice versa, not sure which. We arrived in teeming rain and had barely pulled up when she appeared to help us unload our baggage into the house. She then bombed backwards and forwards getting us fresh milk for our drinks tray and sorting out the heating in our room which initially declined to work for us before pointing us to the local eating places as we hadn't 'phoned early enough to arrange to eat in. As we were the only guests we were upgraded to an inevitably spotless, four-poster room overlooking the river so, like a previous contributor, fell asleep to the sound of running water. Breakfast was excellent and my wife, who suffers from a number of food intolerances, was well catered for. The rain having stopped by the morning, we wanted to look at Lynmouth so asked if we might leave our car for 1/2 hour while we walked into the village. "Leave it as long as you like" came the immediate answer. Very difficult to fault - so why try?

Room Tip: Worth trying to get a room overlooking the river.

“First Class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

There are not enough superlatives to describe our stay at Lorna Doone House. Sharon and Neil made us feel very special. The room we had was spotless, cosy, warm and comfortable with a river view. The en-suite was lovely - warm and roomy with soft towels. The food was amazing with a very substantial breakfast to set us up for the day's walking and a magnificent evening meal with a marvellous choice of dishes. We have tried various places in the area over many years and this is definitely the best.

Room Tip: River view rooms are lovely and the sound of the water very soothing

“Great stay, great hospitality - fantastic value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Sharon was fantastic. We arrived on Friday, rain was tipping down. She got us a hot cuppa even before we'd unpacked our bags. Good to feel that we had made it safely! We had great, warm rooms, central location and immediately felt free to choose our own agenda. Breakfasts were magnificent, plenty to eat and (as I love black pudding) a great start to the day. Our one regret - we did not have dinner on Saturday (will not make the same mistake again!). Over the last 10 years we have stayed in Lynton / Lynmouth many times (Cottage Hotel, Tors Hotel, Glen Lyn Gorge, East Lyn Hotel, Lyn Valley Hotel, Riverside Cottages, Heatherville Hotel to name a few). Lorna Doone is the best by far - friendly, excellent service and very welcoming. We think we've found our 'Shangri-La' - Gary and Hilary Hinde

Room Tip: Ask for room 4 is available - it's a four poster!

Can you imagine sleping next to the soothing sound of bubbling river. The location of this charming guest house is picture perfect. Spectacular views of Lynmouth, fantastic sound effects. Spotless rooms, great meals ( gluten free for me as I am a Celiac) A friendly cosy place I would like to return to , Sheer magic
