“A real gem - excellent hosts, comfy beds and a tasty breakfast - they literally could not do more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Hillside House is a short walk from the hub of Lynmouth. We had a beautifully decorated ensuite room with views of the river. A comfy bed and tasty breakfast were the perfect combination and at the right price. Parking is limited (as you would expect in such a village) but you can park for 2 hours at a time in the bays outside for free and the car park right by the b&b has a reasonable daily rate so this was not a problem at all. The hosts were fantastic, friendly and helpful and even remembered our quirky breakfast combinations on the second morning. Thank you for such a lovely weekend.

We can recommend the rising sun pub for excellent food overlooking the river and coast. Unfortunately, we did not have much time to explore elsewhere as we had a wedding nearby, but there is always the next visit! Lynmouth is a lovely idyllic spot in North Devon and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Loved this place. Very friendly hosts, good recommendations, comfortable bedroom, lovely position overlooking the river, large bathroom, extremely filling and well-cooked breakfast, all at a good price. Would definitely return.

“would NOT recommend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

As soon as we arrived at the Hillside I had to use the bathroom,
We were told about a specific type of plumbing systems in the bathrooms. It was very noisy and WORSE than that was the smell when other people in the B&B flushed their toilets, we would get vile smelling water squirting from either our shower tray or sink. We resorted to pouring toilet cleaner around the shower tray and sink every night before going to sleep as well as spraying a large dose of air freshener around the bathroom.

I was shocked to discover that when I went to use a fresh bar of soap from the soap dish, the soap dish was dusty and had a dark hair on it. There was also the issue of all the 'clean' towels smelling of damp.

We went to bed on the first night after discussing the smoky musty smell of the B&B. We both woke up after having a very uncomfortable sleep in the bed. We went to have our breakfast and both decided to have the full English. I was slightly put off when my pot of tea arrived with a dog hair attached. My partner told me he had dog hair on a slice of his bacon. The owners have a dog. We then noticed as we were leaving that other people staying at the B&B were allowed to bring their dogs into the breakfast room.

“we were well looked after and would certainly return.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

We had a few days break in Lynmouth, an area that we love, and were well cared for at this homely B&B. Denise and Jeff were very helpfull and nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and of adequate size and the en-suite had a bath which was very welome after walking miles each day. My full English breakfast was superb but Denise would also cater for any other choices you may have. Although we didn't have a dog it appears that dogs are welcome and are even provided with a sausage for breakfast (not eaten at the table of course).
