We checked in mid-afternoon and were shown to our room by a mute teenager who to her credit switched us to a lower floor as my husband is on crutches but didn't really say anything else. The rooms are nice it's true but this is not a hotel in the strict sense of the word, there is no room service or reception. The room we were in didn't have a hairdryer or water glasses which we had to go down the the reception to request.
It was the weekend of the music festival and the fifth time we've been to Lymouth in recent years. We love the place but weren't so happy to be distrubed as we were getting ready for bed at 12.30pm by someone shouting at our window and asking us to "shake the bush" outside as they had thrown their car keys while trying to hit the window next door to wake their husband up. We tried this but to no avail and left them to it, particularly when the man shouted "that's the bxxxtrd that took the door off the latch" to my husband (he didn't but the door to the street wasn't supposed to be open anyway). They then got in to the building and started banging on our door asking to come into the room to shake the bush outside the window. This went on and on, eventually they managed to get someone out in the street to get the keys out of the hedge they had thrown them into. By 1.30am we finallly got to go to sleep. As there was no night reception the "hotel" management were blissfully unaware of these goings on disturbing their guests.
The next morning over breakfast (9.30am deadline on a Sunday), we told the staff what had happened. They half-heartedly appologised and seemed to have a word with the couple that had caused all the fuss. We ordered breakfast (a painful process with a waiter who didn't speak English so we had to point out the ingredients for a fry up on the menu and ask twice for toast). We then asked when we had to check out - 10.30am so only half an hour after finishing breakfast.
So all in all, hotel prices (£112 for the room) without hotel facilities - no reception, room service, later sunday breakfast or check out. I've paid less for a more luxurious room in the MalMaison in Manchester with breakfast and midday check out on a Sunday, plus without the drunked guests disturbing us.
We have stayed lots of places in Lymouth but wouldn't stay at this hotel again.
