The hotel is nicely positioned right in the centre of Exeter next to the Cathedral and easy access to most shopping areas. Suggest you arrive in Exeter in daylight and don't just rely on Sat Nav to find the nearest car park or entrance to Cathedral yard.
The hotel is old but with modern decor. The welcome was good and my Mothers bag was carried to our room.
The room was a nice sized spacious room with twin beds next to each other. Nice subtle lighting and good sized mirror in wardrobe and magnified one was great in the bathroom. no bath, which is sometimes nice but a nice big walk and powerful shower. Lovely toiletries.
Nice shoice of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. There was room service available but not sure of a charge for this.
The Happy Persons Deal included the room, a two course meal from a weekly set menu (a little limited) and breakfast (£129 per night per room). We had to ear our evening meal in the Cafe/bistro, which was good food BUT the alcoholic drinks were very expensive and an additional 12% added as a service charge e.g £9 for a bottle of beer. Some of the staff were a little slow in taking orders but it was busy with Christmas parties. The Manager was very informative and made a greater effort with us.
Back in the room we could have done with some instructions for the air conditioning, which was noisy and on and off throughout the night. We also had music below until 11.30 with Christmas functions I guess.
A great choice of cooked Breakfast dishes and/or continental plus juices, lovely fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, porridge with maple syrup and pastries. The service was excellent as it was the main restaurant. This made the deal worth it.
The food looked great and reasonable in the Tavern next to the hotel. We went there for an after dinner Cappachino and a drink. Found our options limited as the Ship was not for us with Karaoke that night too.
When you pay the bill do check the itemised bill that you have to sign. On arriving home I realised we were over priced by £15. I rang the hotel and they apologised for this.
