We didn't stay at the Victory but called in for some lunch last week. The pub looked fine from the outside and there were a few people eating outside. The inside was a bit dark but you expect this with old properties and, initially, the staff seemed OK. We ordered scampi and chips, which, at nearly a tenner, isn't cheap. It seemed to arrive quite quickly and we soon found out why-though the scampi was ok the chips weren't cooked properly!! I'm sorry, but the place wasn't busy and any chef should be able to cook chips. The couple next to us also ordered scampi and chips just after us and their chips weren't cooked properly either so we both complained. The girl serving looked a bit baffled and went out the back, then came back and said a new lot would be cooked. So we all sat there, with our scampi getting cold in front of us still until she returned with 2 bowls of chips and plonked them down on the table-still no apology!! When I pointed out that the scampi was now cold she diappeared again, only to come back a bit later to say that we would each only be charged for one meal. We should really have walked then but we ate our chips and cold scampi and just payed up. At no time was there an apology and the staff discussed amongst themselves, within our hearing, the fact that we had complained. As we payed I pointed out, politely, that we hadn't been happy with the service and, again, got a gormless look from the girl and still no apology. We were made to feel very much that it was our fault that the chef can't do his job properly. So eat here at your peril, good job it wasn't the scampi that was undercooked otherwise we could have all had food poisoning.
