We'd been to St. Mawes briefly on another trip and decided to stay for a few nights on our next trip to Cornwall, and we picked out Nearwater. In a quiet location a few minutes' walk from the town centre, just a minute from the Percuil river and with its own offstreet parking, it was an excellent base for walks or trips by car or boat to explore the area. Amelia and Tim came out to say hello before we'd even turned the engine off, and five minutes later after arriving on a dark autumn evening we had our feet up by the fire in the guest lounge with a glass of welcome cider, maps of the area, books and board games in easy reach.
I think our room was the 'small one' but very comfortable and stylish nonetheless
As we were staying a few nights, the ever changing breakfast specials were very welcome. As guests eat together at Nearwater, it wasn't long before you were spending too much time chatting over the smoked salmon and scrambled egg or Tim's moorish home-made Granola (my favourite) and not enough time seeing Cornwall!
Amelia and Tim were very helpful with ideas about things to do around St. Mawes and beyond. Though we didn't get the chance this time, in season they offer trips in their sailing boat for a modest fee, and Amelia's passion for sea swimming almost (but not quite) got me to go for an early morning autumn dip. Their enthusiasm for the area is simply wonderful.
After a few days at Nearwater, Tim and Amelia feel more like friends than hosts, and surely that's how it should always feel when it's time to go home, so well done and thank you!
