“Lovely location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We have returned after a long weekend at a lovely quiet hotel right by the sea. Firstly parking this time of year can be on the road side just beyond the hotel however there is plenty of room at a near by car park. The interior of the hotel is as discribed by other recent visitors, staff very good and nothing to much trouble and the rooms clean and bright. The one thing I was not too happy with was the food. Breakfast was plentiful and a good choice on the menu. However the evening meals I thought went down hill on the last two nights with tasteless gravy and over use of salad. I would not let this put you off as the hotel is in a lovely spot and for the money a good deal and there are other places to eat out if you wish.

Room Tip: Sea view room is a must.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, honest reviews are a valuable tool to help us measure customer satisfaction and make appropriate action if required. I am pleased that you noticed how clean your room was - this is feedback which often gets forgotten and our housekeeping team will be pleased to have been recognised. I am sorry that you felt the food went down hill after your first night and I will raise this with our Head Chef however your comments do suprise me being that many other reviewers comment on how good our food is. It is pleasing that you found our team to be good, they are a valuable asset to the hotel.

Once again thank you for your comments

“Wonderful Stay At The Ship & Castle Hotel.”

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Ship & Castle Hotel.
We booked and travelled with Shearings coaches.
The hotel is in a lovely peaceful location (opposite the harbour).
The hotel looks like all the public areas have recently been re-decorated although the rooms could do with a little updating (we never had warm water in our room all week and the room looked a little shabby).
The food was fantastic all week with plenty of choice and the inclusive bar was fantasic. I only asked for the drinks once and both of the bar staff remembered our drinks and room numbers all week.
All the staff were very pleasent and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
I would recomend a trip to Falmouth on the ferry it was centainly an experience.
I would definatly recommend this holiday.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments. I cannot agree with you more that we do have a wonderful location, and that the short trip to Falmouth is an excellent way to explore further afield whilst staying with us. We indeed had a problem with one of our boilers last week and at some times there may not have been hot water but there was certainly hot water for the majority of the week. this issue has now been resolved and I am sorry this affected your stay with us. I have passed your comments regarding our good food onto Suzie (head Chef) and her team and they are delighted, as are John (Bar Manager) and Virag (Wine Waitress). It is lovely to see that their hard work as well as that of all of our team is noticed.

I hope you will make the trip to St Mawes again soon, there is alot in our local area which I am sure would be of interest to you

“Scenic and Peaceful”

A Coast and Country Shearings hotel in a lovely position right on the quiet harbour of St Mawes. Stayed 19th -23rd January 2012. The hotel appeared to be recently re decorated in the most part and the service was excellent. There is a lift to upper floors. The 3 night weekend package we booked was very good value and was half board with a good choice of meals at both dinner and breakfast was good. It was quiet in January but later I would imagine the whole place would be busy. The village is unspoiled even down to very few street lights. Take advice on the car parking arrangements as there is some on street parking and a municipal car park within a short distance where the payment arrangements are not transparent.

Room Tip: Front rooms have a view over the harbour/bay and may have a premium attached.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your kind comments. Your are quite right in saying that St Mawes is an unspoilt traditional cornish village, it really is a delightful place to visit. Our Head Chef is very happy after seeing your comments about our food. Once again thank you for your comments and I do hope to see you again soon.

Kind Regards

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments following your stay with us. We are pleased with your comments regarding the food being good and we will work hard to tweak our service in order to get the food a little hotter for our guests. I have had the shower in your room attended to and it is now fully working, I am sorry this was not dealt with better whilst you were here, but am pleased that you found your room otherwise to be of a good standard.

Once again thank you for taking time to give us some constructive feedback, it is an invaluable tool to helping us improve the hotel
