“Excellent service and nice people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

Margaret and Martin are very accommodating people and kindly collected us from the station, although it is only five, steep minutes away. They insisted on taking us back to the station. The food is excellent and the room adequate although it does need updating including the rather antequated TV. But their willingness to please and effort to make your stay enjoyable is second to none and we hope to return.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

We booked this accommodation over the phone and had an understanding that it was a double room with a sea view. Despite our first impression upon arrival of the garden and the decor looking sad and in need of some TLC we looked forward to staying near to the beach. Our "double room" was on the top floor under the eaves of the house with a cupboard posing as the ensuite! All l can say is it had a sea view as it was at the top of the house and if you ignored the ugly building in front of the hotel there was a view in the distance. All the bedding, pillows, duvet and linen had seen better days and when l looked under the bed there was dirty tissues and copious amounts of dust. Everything in the room and shower could of done with a thorough clean. The curtains must have been at the windows for decades as they were not only faded but covered in milldrew stains. My husband who is 6ft spent all his time avoiding the low beams which had large red signs "please mind your head". It was a pity they never explained on the phone that the so called double room was extremely small and cramped. Breakfast was dismal. Hence we decided to cancel our reservation and moved to another place.

“Welcoming and relaxing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

Just got back from the Borthalan on Thurs 3rd June and I must say it was a very nice place to stay. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Their service to us, and all of their customers that we seen during our 4 day stay was excellent and efficient.
The location is sublime although a little hilly, but having said this, all of this area is hilly so please find it is no disadvantage unless you are a little infirm and cannot get around easily. Our room on the 2nd floor had magnificent views of the beach and coastline.
The hotel is very good value and has a real homely feel. All in all we had an excellent stay in the Borthalan.
Les and Jean dawson.

“Great B&B in a great loaction”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2010

We booked this B&B through the good reviews that we read on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. Martin and Margaret (the hosts) were very welcoming and helpful and the breakfasts were delicious. The location was excellent and only a 3 min walk to the station where you can get a train to St Ives for £2 return!!!! (alternatively a 40 min walk along the coastal path). We would recommend this B&B to anyone.

“Martin and Margaret are the perfect hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2010

Martin and Margaret (the hosts) were welcoming, friendly, informative, efficient and helpful. There was an excellent choice for breakfast. All cooked breakfasts were freshly prepared to order. The room was comfortable, clean, well furnished and nicely decorated but was on the small side. It's not 5 star (No luxury power showers and Margaret has to know roughly at what time you want breakfast) but at £75 per night it's good value and strongly recommended. We had tea making facilities in the room with biscuits! plus a TV and Wi-Fi. The B&B (it's more of a B&B than an hotel) is in a quiet location just up the hill from Carbis Bay beach. There are good restaurants within walking distance both in Carbis Bay and St Ives. The fantastic massive expanse of Hayle Sands is only about 5 miles away. Seal watching at Mutton Cove at Godrevy was a highlight for us (about 8 miles from the B&B) - park in the NT car park at Gwithian and ask the NT guys for details of where to find the seals.
