“''Another great holiday at Atlantic View!''”

We have just returned from yet another great holiday at Atlantic View. We have stayed with Bill and Terri many times and look forward to seeing them just as much as the fantastic view from the B & B. Atlantic View is Bill and Terri's home and so there is a very relaxed home from home atmosphere as soon as you arrive. The hosts are two of the most friendliest, helpful people you could hope to find and will go out of their way to help guests to settle in eg. cream teas on arrival, collecting guests from railway station etc. Bill and Terri's knowledge of the area is really helpful and due to them we have had some fabulous meals and found lovely areas to visit, all of which has helped to make every holiday a perfect one. As with most guest houses the rooms at Atlantic View are small but all beds are king size and extremely comfortable. Room 3 has a spectacular sea view and you can use additional landing space and/or Room 3a if travelling as a family. The breakfast room has a very informal and relaxing atmosphere which we really like, especially when on holiday with young children. There is an excellent choice of breakfasts and most guests appreciate the system of making their choice the night before and selecting a time so as to avoid a wait. There is also a good choice of time slots for breakfast, if you require an early or a later start to the day. The full Cornish breakfasts are freshly prepared whilst guests help themselves to tea, coffee, cereal etc. I certainly have never been served re-cooked food, in fact any fresher and the sausages would still be oinking!! We always enjoy a lovely holiday every time we visit, our little boy adores Bill and Terri and is always happy in their home, which makes for a very relaxing family holiday.

“Homely atmosphere”

Bill and Terri made us feel very welcome and the added value factor was the beautiful kitten Marley !- We were treated to 'cream Tea' on the patio on arrival which was a nice gesture- and the view great.
This B&B is definately 'No Frills' ( Room 1-bedroom/bathroom a little small , and no views) but it was a good base and we would use again.
The Breakfast was wonderful and filled us up for the rest of the day. The only downside being that we had to share a table at breakfast in the kitchen with other couples- which isnt so bad but some visitors would find it a lttle too intimate.
The upside is that the hosts were lovely people, i suppose it depends what you want out of your stay , we stayed 'on spec' - so if youre looking for a comfortable base this is fine but luxury its not .
We,ve stayed in St Ives many times and I would recommend quite a few restaurants but this time we ate at 'The Mermaid' and 'The Loft' who produced lovely food.

Room Tip: if you stay here I would ask for the Sea View room. .

Thank you for reviewing Atlantic View Guesthouse. We are glad that you enjoyed your holiday and take on board your comments. With regard to the communal dining in our breakfast room, we realise that not everyone likes this so we will be mentioning this on our website which is being updated at the moment. Yes our rooms and shower rooms are small but this is something that we cannot address but most guests realise that we are a house not a hotel which have much larger rooms and indeed charge higher prices. We do not advertise as a `luxury` establishment but I would disagree that we are `no frills` as each room provides a new flat screen tv, with dvd and i-pod docking, free wi-fi in rooms, biscuits, chocolate, toiletries, hairdryer, clock radio, wine glasses and corkscrew and in addition to luxury towels, we also provide beach towels. We only have one room with sea view unfortunately.

“Huge disappointment !!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

Having just stayed at the Atlantic View Guest House, we are leaving with mixed emotions - on the one hand we are missing our favourite place in the whole world already and on the other we are very glad that we have left this very basic guest house ! . We have come away feeling very let down indeed!!
On first arrival before even checking in we were asked for the rest of the money owed, something that throughout my working life of staying away every week with my job i have never been asked to do!
when shown to our room we were immediately taken aback by how small it was,the carpet was frayed in the doorway and the whole room felt very dated,in fairness to them the room wasn't dirty it just felt like it really needed a total makeover,on closer inspection we found mildew at the blind in the window,
as for the en suite if you suffer from claustrophobia don't even go in there!! the shower felt like it was going to come off the hinges every time you used it and i didn't really feel much cleaner when id got out of it than when i got in it! . The room was not cleaned during our stay - again this has NEVER happened to me before - at the end of the day you are paying for this service.

Breakfast was very strange indeed !!!! - you are asked to pre order what you want and what time you want it !!! , (we felt a bit under pressure to not to be late for it) , we were amazed to see that all the food for the english breakfast is all cooked before hand in one large pan and then just re fryed to heat through when needed- not freshly cooked !!, and all the juice that you do not drink they pour back into the juice containers !!!!!)

All in all we would not return to this guest house, it has been the worst B & B that we have been to in St Ives.

p.s and over priced !!!.

I am sorry that you left us feeling very let down. As I recall you did not mention any problems whilst you were with us and indeed you kissed me goodbye! I therefore was under the impression that you had enjoyed your stay.
I would like to take this opportunity to address your complaints. It is my policy to take 50% deposit and the balance in cash on arrival as I do not take cards and in the past guests have booked for a week and decided to leave early if the weather is bad, which is out of my control. I did email you when you paid the deposit requesting cash on arrival.
I believe you stayed in room 1 which, apart from the carpet was refurbished last year. I agree our rooms and shower rooms are small but being a house and not a hotel this is fairly usual. I have photos of all my rooms on my website and don`t think that they mislead anyone that they are larger than they appear. Yes the carpet was frayed by the door and I examined the blind and yes there was slight mould spots which have now been cleaned. You state that the room was clean but then say that you felt unclean after coming out of the shower, which I find slightly confusing! I have checked the hinges on the shower door and they are fine. I recall asking you if you would like your room serviced and you replied that you didn`t require anything, so I did not disturb you.
We ask our guests to pre-order breakfast as we have an extensive menu and need to take items out of the freezer the night before. As we can have up to eight guests for breakfast we also ask you to select a time so we do not keep everyone waiting if they all come down at once, we do not employ staff and like to keep the personal touch. Our food is cooked fresh for each guest and not re-fried as you stated. It is placed in a tray on kitchen paper in the oven whilst we cook the eggs to order. Juice from glasses that are left is thrown away but the juice that is in the glass jugs is poured back into the carton to enable us to wash the jugs. All my guests are able to observe us cooking breakfast as we are open plan.
We have lots of guests who appreciate our efforts and find us value for money. Hopefully you will find a guest house in St. Ives that fits your requirements in the future.

“Best ever B&B. Ever!!!!!!!!!”

What a fantastic location.
First time to St Ives, could not believe the views & how lucky to have booked into a place where we could appreciate them so well.
The room was beautifully decorated & l must say one of the most comfortable beds we've ever had on holiday!
On our arrival Bill & Terri gave us such a warm & friendly welcome, not to mention the cream tea on the terrace at the bottom of the garden, Sea view to die for, we settled in in no time.
Thanks to their local knowledge & easy friendly nature they were a big help in getting us started with no time to waste. We managed to find all those special must see places!!!
One of our most enjoyable memories was the fun we had at breakfast, "& what a breakfast!" sharing tales & stories with the other guests with Bill & Terri on hand to see that we wanted for nothing. They had a wonderful way of making everyone feel as if they were at home.
Thankyou so much to them. We will most certainly be back!!!!!

Room Tip: Best view from room 3, however our room truly comfortable, even wine glasses, lots of little extras...
