“A great find.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

I booked this venue last minute in peak season and on arrival was extremely pleased with my find! Easy to find and in a fab location. I was travelling alone so was allocated the smallest room of the three. Although £40pppn, I was lucky only to be charged £65 per night for my three nights. Linda was there to greet me on my arrival and great at providing local information and directions. Breakfast was from 8.30 and i have to say was just lovely, I didnt take the full English option, instead there was a choice of cereal, fresh fruit and toast and fresh tea and coffee every day. A very pleasant start to the day. I thought the location was ideal, a short walk to the nearest beach, or a walk onto the headlands or into town.
I thought Monterey was lovely. My room was well presented, modern and very clean. I think the other 2 rooms ahd a seaview, which would have made it even beter.
I would recommend the Monterey to anyone taking a visit to St Ives. Great place, location, hosts and value for money.
Thanks Linda and David - I hope to visit you again!

Room Tip: If you can get the rooms at the frnt of the house they have an awesome view!

“Very nice and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2011

We stayed over the May bank holiday and booked relatively last minute. From the hundreds of B&B's in St Ives I think we really lucked out. Linda and David were very welcoming and charming... and put on a great breakfast! Our room was very bright, airy and modern as well as super clean, the view was pretty good too. Linda even quickly noticed and posted back a jacket I had left behind!

St Ives is quite hilly, and this place sat on the ridge overlooking town and beach so would not suggest for those with trouble walking - however, this was no problem for us and we did have a car space (for additional £4). Overall we had a great weekend in a very pretty location with very nice hosts.

“A Room with a View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2010

A guest house plucked from the millions listed online for a spontaneous mid-January weekend get-away.

Being January and being the only ones staying we were able to park literally outside the front door - something of a novelty for St Ives which was never designed with the car in mind! Our room, Porthmeor, directly looks out onto the beach of the same name. Recently refurbished to a high standard this room has a spectacular view out over the beach and to the open sea beyond. The shower room with large, walk-in shower has also recently been refitted and was as immaculate as the room itself.

The owners were very cheery and welcoming and there was a lovey cooked breakfast with plenty of extra coffee and toast forthcoming.

All in all a lovely stay in a great, comfortable room with a fantastic sea view, far enough from the harbour to avoid noise (not a problem in January when we visited) yet only a 5 minute stroll from the centre. We'd certainly recommend it to family and friends and wouldn't hesitate to return ourselves.

“Marvellous Monterey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2009

Booked on the Internet having read the reviews. Not disappointed. The Monterey is in a lovely location near Tate and town, super views, great service. Our room 'The Porthmeor' had a kingsized bed, big shower, modern and stylishly decorated, exactly as the picture on screen. Linda and David friendly hosts, breakfasts great with different fruits and cooked breakfast each day. One evening was raining so we stayed in. Linda gave me two wine glasses so we sat and looked at the view and drank our wine.
Tips - we came by train Club 55, got Ace taxi to Monterey, ate Alba, The Mermaid and The Firehouse, all excellent. Great bird watching at the Hayle estuary (bus or train to Lelant Saltings). Great bus service, everyone around is friendly.
