“was not to bad but does depend on accomdation”

after reading the review about the bronze and budget chalets we paid a little bit more and had a forest croft chatet (251) the accomdation was general ok was clean and did not smell of damp, kitchen was a nice size and the oven was very good, when arrived we had paid for a cot for baby but it was not in the chalet went back to reception and they said would sort it, by the time i had walked back 2 maintance staff arrived carrying the cot, they asked where we wanted the cot on the internet it says it will only go in the living room but he removed the 2nd bed and took it with him and clean the floor and skirting boards when the bed had been which i thought was rather good. We went for a walk around the park and did notice a few chalets which could do with improving and could see why some of the reviews had been put on. We went swimming the pool was really nice and warm but not too busy but i would say could have been opened a bit longer. We only went to the evening entertainment once found it very boring even the kids found the entertainment boring. I would return to the park but only if book into a more expensive chalet and maybe in high season when hopefully entertainment will be better.

Room Tip: pay the little bit more and book something better then budget or bronze

“Really nice base for exploring”

I was a bit concerned after reading the reviews on here, but was pleasantly surprised. The staff at reception were really friendly, and although I didn't spend any time there, the main function room and bar looked fine. Our cabin was clean and tidy, and had all mod cons - everything worked, everything was clean and there was no extra charge for gas and electricity! When you consider the cost for the week, I was very pleased with this, and am planning a return visit when the newspaper offer starts again. If you are given a bad cabin, just ask for a different one!

“dirty and stinking”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

we,like many other reviews booked one of the cheap deals and were expecting basic accomodation,we wouldnt even mind shabby too much, but dirty is not acceptable! on appearance the site is very appealing set in woodlands. The bronze chalets should be all knocked down. We found blood and urine stained duvets, stinking sofa and heavily stained chair. The pyrex roasting dish hadn`t been washed from previous occupants, and mouse traps behind cooker and fridge. The inside of the microwave hadn`t been washed and the table had crusted food stuck to it. We cleaned the place and stuck it for two of the four days, when we decided to pack up and return home, we told the manager the reasons why, he replied that the cleaners had been good this year and it was nearly the last week! what a poor excuse!! he said that with the rain it had all got damp..these chalets have been due for refurbishment for years now, why don`t they do it and not expect people to live in filth!!! Its a shame, could be a lovely site.

Room Tip: Dont book a bronze chalet. Go for a lodge or oakleigh.

“If you want the Ritz then go there instead”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We have stayed at this site many times. In fact I first stayed there in 1968! If you use the newspaper cheap option then why would they give you the best chalets that other people are more than willing to pay the 'full price' for. The secret is when you have stayed in a decent chalet, ask for it again. We have stayed in the same one for the last 3 years and have already booked it again for next year.
The site is very quiet, ideal for families and is ideal for a base to see beautiful Cornwall.
The staff are always very friendly and helpful. From the comments posted on here, some people have no idea how to talk to the staff!

If you want a good value break then try here. There were 8 of us in a large chalet and we paid £35 each for a seven night holiday. Thats £5 a night!

As I have stated if you want the Ritz, pay the price and stay there instead.

“Stuck in a time warp!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

After a lovely few days with our family in Devon celebrating our ruby anniversary my husband and I and our son travelled on to the st. ives holiday park. to start with i would say that it is not near to anything and you definately need a car. it says that buses run every ten minutes however we did not see a bus in the whole hour we were there! we were given the keys to our chalet (shed) and set off to find it, the road to the chalet was full of so many holes it was like going off road. the well kept woodland areas were seriously overgrown and needed a good tidy up. on finding our chalet we were already not impressed by the look of it from the outside but decided to venture on. on opening the door we were hit by a damp mouldy smell that literally took your breath away as did the decor! it was seriously like going back about 40 years, the whole place was wood panelled with a old orange sofa, a dirty old carpet and furniture that looked like it had been salvaged from a skip. then there was the small kitchen that i would not have wanted to cook anything in, it was grimey and the wood panelling was all sticky. the bedrooms were no better, dirty and damp. the bathroom was no better. we could not even see out of the windows they were covered in some sort of dirty film. after looking round we decided that there was no way we could stay in these conditions and headed back to reception, the staff were freindly and apologetic but we ended up giving them back the keys and heading home. we had paid for 4 nights but i could not imagine even having to spend one night there. as for the facilities we did walk through the club house and it looked like a large school canteen, it was dated and shabby. the park grounds had not been maintained, it was overgrown and in need of a serious revamp. i onoly wish that we had looked at the park reviews before booking as we would have given it a miss, it definately does not look like the pictures in the brochure we were sent. its a shame that our family holiday ended on such a low after a lovely few days in Devon on a really nice site. we could have lived with the shabby outdated chalet but the dirt and damp put us off. seriously how hard is it to clean something properly???? i'd not recommend this park to anyone, stay clear and spend your money elsewhere.

Room Tip: choose a rrom somewhere else!!!
