“Perfect end to a day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2010

Walked the Cornish coastal path and stayed the night at The Badger Inn.
Room was OK. Clean and tidy with everything you neeeded, if a bit small.
Bar atmosphere was spot on. Warm, friendly, relaxed and good, simple country food.
Breakfast was great. Cooked to order, not a tired buffet like big hotels.
Would have liked to stay longer but had more coast to walk.

“Worst meal ever”

A group of us went to the Badger Inn after seeing the sign advertising 'good home cooked food' outside the pub, this couldn't have been further from the truth! I was the only one to order a starter which arrived promptly and was rather good, a simple sandwich on nice granary bread. We waited for the mains to arrive with anticipation. In total we waited for around an hour, prehaps longer! In the meantime the staff were running around like headless chickens trying to sort out the meals for another table (the only other people in there). Their meals arrived over the course of half an hour/ forty five minutes, by the time the next meal arrived the previous one had been finished. One member of the party sent their meal back three times because it was cold and in the end asked for a refund. As they left the disgruntled diners wished us "goodluck" which nobody wants to hear before eating. I ate there with a group of about 6 or 7 friends. We ordered a range of mains, when they arrived, the majority seemed to be the most basic of microwave meals or frozen crap that had been deep fat fried. Two friends ordered 'cumberland sausages with mash, yorkshire pudding and onion gravy'. The description and prices (around £12 per head) made us beleif we would receive the highest quality nosh. Before ordering my friend asked specifically if it wash smash or real mash, and wash told whole heartedly "real". When they arrived the whole table went silent in disbelief, a blob of smash with two cremated frozen (the poorest quality) sausages, with bisto and a shrivelled mini yorkshire. The staff were very obliging when refunds were requested! All in all it was a masively over priced dissapointment!

“traditional Cornish pub near St Ives”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

Granite built tradditional Cornish pub with a big following from locals, UK and foreign tourists. Small garden, good parking and near the St Erth to St Ives train staion at Lelant. Close to a great coastal golf course. Bedrooms were clean but double bed mattress and pillows were somewhat uncomfortable. Coffe & tea making facilities were welcome as was a modern TV. The en-suite had a huge bath and powerful shower - great. The evening meal cavery was just fantastic and very reasonable. Plenty of other meal choices too. No wonder it was packed every night . The full English breakfast in the morning was also very good, made with fresh local ingredients and very filling. Well done the Badger!

“Spoilt by the half witted staff”

Decided to eat at The Badger after seeing the website and because we were staying down the road in Carbis Bay. The exterior is very pretty and we thought the carvery sounded simple enough. But trying to order 4 glasses of soda water (fizzy water), proved almost impossible. The bar tender appeared half witted and couldnt understand our request for soda water. This painful exchange took about 10 minutes. Finally, after getting our drinks, we ordered 4 carvery meals. Then I asked for a receipt for the meals which seemed to throw him into confusion again. Another 10 minutes of scratching his head, looking at the register and consulting with somebody that looked like it could have been his mother, he announced he couldnt give us a receipt. . We then had to wonder where the carvery was, what the procedure for getting our food was, utensils etc. The management is completely in the weeds here. When we finally got our carvery meals, we were underwhelmed. Very standard fare and nothing special for the price. This place has a good location and nice garden but spoilt by the strange staff.

“Take a mattress topper with you and bottle of fairy liquid for the washing up!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2009

We stayed at The Badger Inn at the weekend and found in to be a very friendly, nice atmosphere and packed with people with their children for the Carvery. The only problem we found is that the bed was SO UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!! We ended up sleeping on top of the duvet to soften the mattress.
The en suite bathroom was very good, with an excellent water supply. The bath and shower were modern.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the food was good, although the crockery could have been cleaner. All in all I would say we had a good stay, but if you are planning a visit - take a mattress topper with you!!!!
