We visited this place because we were driving past and were hungry - the sign outside said good food home cooked or something to that effect. We got inside - the decor was tatty and the menu uninspiring (as well as massively overpriced) - £11.50 for a 6 (not 8), yes a 6oz burger!! Against my better judgement and my gut instinct to walk out, I lowered my expectations and we ordered. I had the roast beef (grossly over cooked), with trimmings (also all over cooked) and a really viscous, glutinous, insipid gravy drowning everything to the point that you could barely see the plate (or the other food). My wife’s vegetable lasagne was equally poor - she is less fussy than me but also left the table feeling violated both physically and financially. Fortunately we had brought food for our two babies so didn't have to resort to feeding them anything prepared by the person who so unprofessionally prepared our lunch. A truly vile culinary experience. Cannot comment on the rooms but strongly recommend NEVER eating here. Putrid - Awful Awful Awful !!!

I had an excellent stay - the room was very clean and tidy - the service at the bar and in the restaurant was second to none as was the breakfast and coffee in the morning and very reasonably priced too. The locals were very friendly and I understood from talking to them that the Pub had very recently been taken over by a new Landlord. I can only assume that the change in management accounts for the upturn in contrast to some of the older revues. The Landlord was very hospitable, attentive and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
I would thoroughly recommend this establishment and hope that my business commitments in the region brings me back into the area and look forward to hopefully visiting in the near future

Stayed last week whilst working in Hayle, Great value, comfortable room and good breakfast.
Ate every evening, would like to point out on one of the nights I stayed, I decided to choose the excellent steak and kidney pie from the specials menu. (the pie was up there in my opinion as 1 of the best pies I ever tasted.)

Also I would like to point out the lovely atmosphere, and welcoming staff, and the speed of service was second to none.

I will be returning, and that's a promise.

Yes it's weird the contrast between reviews, maybe it's a seasonal thing. We visited in October 2010 and had no hesitation in staying again this year. OK the bedrooms are small, but we only want to sleep in them and who really cares if the beds have valances. The important things, friendliness of staff, standard of service and quality of food and drink are all fine. The breakfasts, the "specials" and the desserts were excellent. We would happily visit again.
