“Very Pleased”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2010

St Margarete House is a nice place to say, clean and tidy friendly atmosphere and a good
tasty breakfast. We was very pleased with our stay in a on suit room overlooking the sea.
Would i stay there again the answer would but defiantly the only thing that is a little
annoying is the car parking only room for one car on the front if some one is in there
first then you will have to leave your car in the car park at the top of the road could
work out quite expensive if you had to leave it there for a week or longer.I think that
this should be made clear in the advertisement.

“NOT THE MOST WELCOMING”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2010

Shame they don't try harder to make you feel more welcome. This might go part way then to make up for what is a out of date bb. That needs money spent on it. would not go back.

“customer unfriendly”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2010

I booked a room in this guest house to stay with friends, but due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel it.
They would refuse to give our deposit back, quoting their own terms and conditions. It does state: no refunds avaialbe, but:
- we gave them ample notice (in May, for stay in July) - plenty of time to re-let the room and run no losses
- the circumstances are exceptional (one friend being made redundand, therefore couldn't make it)
- all other places gave us refund no questions asked
- no services have been rendered to warrant keeping all the money
- the booking made on 28 April, cancelled 5 May - does cooling off period not apply?
- the terms are harsh and unfair on customers
We will fight our corner, but in light of such unaccommodating and customer unfriendly attitude I would recommend to STEER AWAY from that place.

“Lovely guest house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2009

I have stayed at St Margaret's several times in the past year and found it to be very nice, owners friendly and very helpful with local information. It is a bit high, so someone who isn't able to walk very far, may find it difficult, but the views are great. I appreciate their ethical outlook and use of Fairtrade.

“Simply not good enough!.......”

My husband and I were booked into this B and B for two nights and only managed one!
This was an incredibly poor B and B, and we felt so disappointed by everything you should reasonably expect. We were welcomed by the owner telling us our car was too big for the allocated car park space and had to park up the road in the car park (which cost us an extra £20). The other owner barely acknowledged us and we were treated as an inconvenience in her day.
The room was so small, with a cupboard that had been turned into a toilet and there was no separate shower room but a little alcove with a fitted shower. You could not shower or use the facilities in a dignified manner.
The views from the breakfast room were nice, but the website doesn't tell you that it is set incredibly high from the town with access via at least 80 steep steps.
I paid £70 per night for this 'pleasure' . This was supposed to be a couple of nights retreat for my very busy husband before he returned to work. We left stressed and so angry that we had spent so much money and enjoyed so little of this expedition!.
p.s never visit St Ives in August - it's too small to handle the tourists. No doubt very beautiful at the right time of the year. These people should simply not be proprietor of this guest house!
