My Partner and I stayed in a private room with a window facing the main street during the month of September.
We were told that the private room with no window was very small, however the room with a window can get very noisy. We made the choice of having a window and the manager was correct, the room gets very noisy. You can hear every little bit of noise from outside, and the windows shakes at the smallest of breezes.
The Manager was friendly and helpful, his dog was very sweet too.
However the reason I am scoring this hostel so low is because of the following:
When i first went to the upstairs toilet it was disgustingly filthy, i don't need to give a description. It was that bad that i waited until we went into town for lunch. Later that day i went back to the upstairs toilet and the same mess was still there, and still wasn't cleaned when we checked out.
My partner and I ventured to the downstairs toilets and showers, whilst the toilets there were much cleaner, the showers weren't clean and the men's were freezing cold (i didn't even bother trying the ladies). The best of a bad bunch of showers were the upstairs ones where you pay 20p for 7 minutes.
The room was fine enough. The linen was clean. The mattress was worn out and i keep waking to find myself almost falling out of bed for a majority of the night, my partners mattress was fine. If you intend on staying here I highly recommend taking an extra pillow or requesting one.
The location of this hostel is fantastic. It is an easy walk to all of St Ives' attractions, and you can park for free in the residential area.
Overall i must admit that my partner and I agreed that it would have been a much more enjoyable experience to pay an extra £12 each for a B&B with clean showers, a comfortable bed and a full english breakfast (and maybe even a seafront view).
