We have just returned from a romantic break today, on our arrival the receptionist forgot to ask when we would like our champagne, so it wasn't until my husband checked with reception what was in the package that it was noticed that she had overlooked this.
We couldn't check what was advertised on the Internet as it still isn't working!! Looking through the reviews, this was mentioned at Christmas. The reception staff didn't really care, they said sorry, but gave the impression that it would be fixed during our stay. I would have appreciated a more honest response as I fully expected the wifi to be working and having now read the Manager's comments in previous reviews.
Our room 307 was very cold, the shower took an age to warm and did not have full pressure and the toilet seat was broken, surely the staff noticed this when they clean the rooms? I couldn't comment if the room has been refurbished, as it was dark and drab! Good lighting would have been nice, as would clean windows, they were rather mouldy, which spoilt the view. The radiator struggled to heat the room, maybe a bigger or perhaps another radiator is needed. I am aware that the Hotel is being refurbished, but please be mindful that guests expect standards, not threadbare carpets, dreadfully tired and shoddy wallpaper on the staircases and corridors. Although I have to say that the bed was very comfortable and the bedding spotless.
Our meal on the Saturday was extremely disappointing. I ordered lamb, which should be served pink but when it arrived it was overdone, as were the potatoes and the veg, my husband's veg were soggy and again overdone. The dessert on both nights was sickly sweet and coated in icing sugar! Yuk, the waiter suggested ice cream, this came in 3 standard children's flavours and again dusted in icing sugar . This mornings breakfast was again a disappointment, scrambled eggs should be light and fluffy, mine was a congealed rubbery dollop on the plate and the sausage wasn't properly cooked. Surely your Executive chef should have all this sorted out by now, if a plate of food is not up to standard, then it shouldn't have left the kitchen. The waiting staff were friendly and courteous.
Our stay was certainly not worth four hundred pounds for the two of us.
