“Classy Stay in St Ives”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I spent a couple of nights at this hotel located on a hill in St Ives with pleasant views down to the main part of town and beach. It's an older style hotel with plenty of character. I enjoyed the cosy public places and my spacious room with terrific bathroom. The AA rosette awarded restaurant as expected served very good food. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. It's a short walk from the centre of town but the plus side of this is that there is on site car parking. Wifi (free) works well in the public areas. Not cheap but does enough to justify the prices.

We stayed for 2 nights mid week in January. Very quiet location with easy access to coast path and town. Room with sea view. Very good dinners, good value wide ranging wine list, and fascinating choice of gins. Helpful staff.

“Great to be back”

This was our third New Year at the Garrack, and we enjoy it even more each time. The friendly, family-run atmosphere puts you at ease from the moment you arrive, and the staff are friendly, efficient and relaxed with the guests. We take our dog, and as other reviewers have said, there is no trace of previous four-legged guests. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant or lounge, which I think strikes exactly the right note. The room we have used is large, comfortable, warm and overlooks the sea. What more do you need? However, there is also an outstanding chef and dinners in the hotel restaurant are a very enjoyable experience. On New Year's Eve, there is a festive dinner which is superb. All this, and the town in walking distance! Delightful, we can't wait to go back.

“What time is the next bus back?”

St Ives is home, and we wanted to go home for New Year. We knew of the Garrack's reputation but, most importantly, wanted to stay somewhere that was dog-friendly.

Three star seaside hotels located in traditional resorts can vary significantly, but we found the Garrack to be at the very top end of our expectations. The food, put simply, was quite exceptional. The staff were friendly and fun and clearly worked hard to lay on a great New Year's Eve. Throughout our stay, service in the restaurant was prompt and attentive.

Yes, properties like this right on the coast are a struggle to maintain, but our rooms were clean, light, well furnished and decorated and had great sea views. Our dogs were made very welcome and, unlike some places we have stayed, there were no traces of other dogs having previously occupied the rooms!

A thoroughly good experience and a restful four night break. We can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view
