after staying at skidden house hotel in 2009 ,told some friends how wonderful our stay was .
so we both booked , for 8 and 10 days in july 2010.
now run for the owners by a single young lady.
she was so tired after making breakfast for guests, she needed the rest of the day off.
so was unable or unwilling to run the bar in the evenings.
the daily room cleaning left a lot to desire.
no tea bags no milk cartons in rooms as week went by.
breakfast was exellent , but as week went by less and less fresh fruit available.
see our review for 2009 , ann bill and you will understand how things have changed for the worse .

This was our second stay at the Skidden Hotel and what can I say, Ginnie was so welcoming and helpful, our rooms were imaculate, beautiful white crisp bed linen and towels. Breakfast full english of course set us up for the day, nothing was to much trouble for Ginnie how many pairs of hands did that girl have the service was second to none. I will be booking this again later in the year to celebrate my husbands birthday and can't wait. Would recommend this establisment to anybody. Well done Ginnie look forward to seeing you again soon.

We stayed at Skidden House just one night while passing through St Ives.Ginnie was very kind and welcoming.The room was very nice and clean.The heating only seemed to come on for an hour early evening and for an hour at about 7am.Overnight our room was freezing and the bathroom even colder.Its a nice old house but if you stay here in winter bring your thermal PJ's. Breakfast was very good too.

Having lived in St.ives previously, I knew we would want a hotel near the harbour to avoid the steep walks back every night, but not too near the harbour to be noisy. Skidden is perfect. We wanted oak beams, quaint character; got it. The doors squeak, and the floors.. but it is 16th century! We had room 6, 4-poster, very tight bathroom but good. Breakfast (Full English and virtually EVERY other possibility you could want, to a VERY high standard indeed... it compared well on 3 consecutive mornings with any 4 or 5-star hotel I've been in). Service is excellent, value very good indeed. We had Room 7 also, a twin on the road side, also good.
