“What a location...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This hotel is a bit special, so if you are in the West Country and have the chance to stay go for it. We have stayed at the Pedn Olva several times over the last few years, tried other St Ives hotels, but always come back, this speaks for itself. Spotlessly clean rooms, nearly all sea facing, some with balconies. Delicious breafast, friendly staff. Go sleep with the sound of waves gently lapping below and the lights of St Ives twinkling across the harbour.

“Amazing sea view room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

In the evening, when we arrived, we could just enjoy a discrete dinner in the hotel restaurant and the warm atmosphere of the lounge. We got a room with balcony, quite small but very well furnished. The bed was like a soft hug overnight. A big window separated us from the ocean, it was late so no landscape to admire, just darkness outside.

But at the first lights of the day a spectacular view wake us up and we felt like being in the right place to live a unique morning.

Room Tip: Get a balcony room on the first floor.

“What a location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Just returned from the Pedn Olva and I must say I was very impressed! Managed to get an amazing deal on Laterooms at the end of last year for room only at under £50 for the night so decided to give it a go. On check-in we were told we had been given a comp upgrade (being a Thursday straight after Christmas I suppose they were quiet). What an upgrade it was - a spacious room with big windows right over the rocks and the sea - couldnt believe how close it was! We ended up sitting in the room for 2 hours with a drink just admiring the view! Excellent room facilities for a 3 star hotel, staff frienfly, and the bar warm and inviting with its modern open fire. Excellent location and only a couple of minutes from the main street. Only downside is that the walls are very thin, so we were awake from 6.30am as the room next door was a family with small children, but it is an old building so can understand the problem. Overall really liked it and will definately look to go back again soon.

Room Tip: Try room 16 - Wheal Dream - no balcony but spacious room, with big windows in 2 directions - so clos...

“A glitch or two but really loved it and would stay again”

We arrived by train and stayed three nights in a room with a balcony and so had all the benefits of the location. The sea roared all night which was marvellous- shut the door if you want it quietened! We would have liked a security chain on the sliding door so it could remain open all night and yet be secure (the balcony was shared). The room was fairly small but satisfactory - most importantly, the bed was very comfortable, there was a small but adequate 'wardrobe' space, a working television set, armchair and space for the cases and, of course, the balcony with chairs and a table. The bathroom was tiny, a shower and lavatory in one space with the hand basin outside in an alcove in the bedroom. I chose to think we were given this because of our slenderness...but then again, perhaps not! If you are a reasonable size you will want to make sure that you have more space than this facility allows. We found it snug but fine - and the shower was terrific. We enjoyed the breakfast combination of buffet fruit, toast and muffins etc with a hot meal that could be ordered. We also had dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed the food and service. The bar snacks were also a fine feature. However, it does have to be made clearer when the kitchen closes. We missed out on a hot snack but the dessert menu that was still on offer included a cheese platter that was readily available, generous and very pleasant.

The facilities are generous - seating for the bar near the ocean and inside, similar arrangements for breakfast/restaurant and a comfortable area for guests. We found everything clean and although there are some signs of age we did not find it unattractive.

Most imortantly, the staff were pleasant, well informed and efficient.

We would stay again. Next time I would phone the hotel rather than using an internet site as the cost per room was the same.

Room Tip: Choose a room with the ocean and a balcony. Ask about the bathroom size. However, if you do not mind...

“Pricey but good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

We've just spent Christmas at the Pedn Olva and here's our thoughts. Yes, the hotel is very expensive but it was the festive period and the location is simply spectacular. There was nothing between us and the sea which we used to drop off to sleep whilst listening to. Breakfast and Christmas dinner were really good and drinks reasonably priced for type of hotel and area. Room was quite small but well maintained and clean. Overall, you get what you pay for.
