“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

We live in Cornwall but were going to a concert in The Guildhall as part of the September Festival so thought it would be more relaxing to stay the night. As we had a short distance to travel we arrived before the room was ready but Keith gave us the parking permit for the railway station car park and we sat on the beach in the sun for 2 hours. The ensuite double room was not large but for a short stay was quite adequate and very clean. However, we both thought the mattress was not the most comfortable. I struggle with some mattresses due to back problems so would not have enjoyed a week of it. Great view over the town and the harbour and even with the window open it was not noisy. The location is ideal for strolling into town. No evening meals available but there is plenty of choice in town. The breakfast was wonderful, a great selection and well cooked. On the morning of departure Keith let us leave our bags there while we went for a walk. It was very good value for the location and time of year. I would return for a short stay but hopefully to a more comfortable mattress!

Room Tip: There is no lift and our room was on the second floor up some steep narrow stairs. We were ok with...

“Lovely find”

We hadn't booked, it was half term and St Ives was full - so a lovely receptionist at a different (and prettier) hotel suggested The Regent. I was concerned because wasn't fully booked - and because when we got there, the front was really not hugely prepossessing. However we had in fact landed on our feet.
The welcome was friendly, the room spotless, small but fine and had utterly wonderful views over the harbour. The breakfasts are rightly famous for quantity and quality - locally sourced sausages, bacon and hogs pudding - locally smoked salmon, haddock and kippers, apricots soaked in elderflower juices - we could have stayed a week and had a different breakfast every day! The view from the back of the dining room is also splendid.
(As an extra bonus we bought lovely Cornish sweaters produced by the owner's son - huge bargain price of £18)
Would definitely go back - and actually I hope it stays just as it is!

“Great location, lovely breakfast view of St Ives”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

We stayed at the Regent Hotel, St Ives for one night as part of a weekend trip from London to West Cornwall. The hotel was right next to St Ives bus station. We didn't have a car and used the buses a lot. So the hotel's location was an excellent bonus. The central area of shops and beaches were less than 5 mins' walk from the hotel.

We had two single rooms with access to a common bathroom for our bedrooms' exclusive use. The rooms were small and clean. The common bathroom was adequate. The bedrooms were on the second floor reached by several small flights of steps. So this might be tricky for those with mobility problems.

Breakfast was good and staff were friendly. The view from the breakfast dining area overlooking St Ives was terrific and probably the hotel's best feature.

The hotel is perfectly adequate for short stay in west Cornwall / St Ives.

“Great View of St. Ives and the ocean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

We were very lucky with the February weather in our travel to St. Ives; no rain but once. This hotel sits up on a hill in a very good location, a short walk to the downtown area. The hotel itself was clean and the rooms were comfortable and had great views of the ocean, bay and city. The owners, Sandy and her husband, were pleasant, The breakfast was included with this hotel and was a very good value.

We slept well, no noises but the seagulls. There are stairs in this hotel, no elevator. There is a very nice sitting room with an oversized, huge window overlooking the sea and the city below. There is a separate tv room, as well. A new Gordon Ramsey restaurant was being built while we were there; I would assume that it is open by now.

Be sure to get a pasty at the end of the day, 5 pm or so, for a one pound price at the local pasty shop. Also, there is a nice hiking path north from the hotel along the beach and up to the hill. We walked for quite awhile and it was quite pleasant.

There are a lot of hills in St. Ives, so wear walking shoes. Drive to the south of Cornwall and up to the Minack Theatre, Porthcurno. It was great to see the surrounding areas, drive the roads, see sheep, bulls, etc. in the countryside. There is a movie theater and pubs, but not a whole lot of night life in the city. Check out the Tate Gallery and have tea or lunch in its cafeteria--ask for a window overlooking the sea. This is a very pleasant, seaside town. You will be surprised at how relaxed you will be after visiting St. Ives.
