I booked a 3 night stay with my boyfriend for his 40th in September. From arrival to check out we felt relaxed and welcomed into Pam and Daves home. The Bed and Breakfast has a brilliant location half way between the public car park (where nearly all visitors/guests have to park in Polperro) and the harbour front. Parking was included in this car park which saved nearly £28 for the 2 days. You are also able to briefly pull up to drop your bags off before parking the car which makes check in so much easier. We were allocated a room at the rear of the property, in the garden area and it was perfect. Wood beams, dual aspect windows and an immaculate shower room awaited us. The furnishings were also beautiful, classic to match the age of the property but contemporary in colour to brighten up the room. It was also incredibly quiet which made our day coming from busy London!
We had breakfast twice, giving ourselves one lie in and the breakfast was amazing. Produce really fresh, obviously locally sourced and piping hot when it reached the table. The selection was very good offering both the full English and alternative healthy options. Service by Pam was with a smile and incredibly quick. Pam is the type of host I like, chats with you like you're an old friend, but at the same time offers you the privacy you like during the breakfast service and whilst occupying your room. On the last day we asked where they sourced their sausages and she immediately got the name of the supplier and made sure we had it before we left. Great service from both the kitchen side with Dave cooking and Pam front of house.
Polperro itself still maintains the type of charm I would expect from a working fishing village. I have stayed in Fowey and Mevagissey but Polperro is definitely quieter, more traditional and a more beautiful place to stay. I loved the fact there was no mobile phone reception...it meant the harbour area was peaceful from all ring tones!!! I also found the local people to be friendly and very welcoming...this is often lost in larger touristy towns in Cornwall, but the locals in Polperro seem to love visitors. We loved the limited selection of restaurants as choice often confuses, with Couch's being the best (don't be put off by the set menu, the food is well worth the money,we have eaten at many fine dining restaurants and Couch's far exceeded our expectations!) and The Blue Peter Inn being the best for live music and a late night out. There was basically something for everyone...but I wouldn't recommend Polperro if you're 20 and looking to be out dancing until 4am!!
The Cottage B and B was a brilliant find courtesy of Trip Advisor. I couldn't imagine there being a better, cleaner and friendlier place to stay anywhere in the country! We would both highly recommend staying with Pam and Dave.....
