“A truly excellent B&B”

I only ever stay in B&Bs because I much prefer them to the soulless, larger hotels and I therefore consider myself something of a B&B connoisseur! So believe me when I say that The Pendennis is exactly what a good B&B should be, but so rarely is.

The location is great, in a quiet, leafy street only a few minutes walk from the town or the seafront, and the building itself is lovely with bags of charm. Inside, everything is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean, with the utmost attention to detail. You can tell the owners have really put a lot of thought into everything, even down to the small things like the yummy biscuits and the decaf coffee, perfect for that late-night cuppa. They want you to really enjoy your stay here and it shows.

Speaking of the owners, Russel & Hazel, they are brilliant! You'll never find more friendly and pleasant hosts, so make time for a good old chin-wag. In fact, they are the best thing about this place and make you feel like part of their family for the duration of your stay. Russell's stories about past guests' odd behaviour are a particular treat whilst your letting the excellent breakfast settle.

I never revisit hotels because, for me, travelling is all about experiencing new things. In this case however, I will definitely break that rule. There's still lots for me to see in the West Penwith area, and that's a great excuse to come back to this gem of B&B.

“A good base for a trip to Cornwall”

Having stayed for a long weekend with friends we were more than pleased with our choice of B & B. Nothing was too much trouble and Hazel was more than helpful in providing information about the area and happy to loan books for us to use during our day out. The breakfast was more than sufficiant to keep us happy until we chose to eat lunch. A mix up with one of our breakfasts after day one meant my husband missed out on his fried egg but the quality more than made up for this minor hiccup. There was plenty of toast & home made jam and marmelade. Our room was large & if there was one thing I would say was the bed made a noise getting in and out. Parking close by & carrying our cases was a minor problem as the local Penzance rugby club is on the same road. During our visit the game against Leeds was being recorded for the televsion. A social event from the rugby club on the Friday night meant we could here the disco as we walked back to the Pendennis however being on the top floor it did not cause us to loose sleep as the double glazing worked really well. We would have no problem recommending the Pendennis.

“Superb accommodation and fantastic hospitality!”

I have just spend a wonderful week at the Pendennis, my room was spacious, tastefully decorated and the housekeeping is immaculate. The breakfast is made to order, cooked beautifully and served with a smile. Russell and Hazel both care very much about the comfort of their guests and nothing is too much trouble . They are both very knowledgeable about the local area and services from buses to helicopters and will let you know the best places to go. Thanks to them both I had a great time and will be back again next year.

Room Tip: Make Russell and Hazel know your requirements and they will do the rest.

“Great hosts, beautiful room, comfortable bed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Russel and Hazel were friendly hosts with a passion for what they do and a great sense of humour.

The house was designed by the architect who built other houses here, of similar style and he lived in this one.

Comfort was excellent. We stayed for two weeks in the large en-suite front room and they were wise enough to let us be 'at home' whilst providing a good service to our room. Fresh milk was offered daily and towels changed regularly.

They were more than happy to provide information about tide times, local events, etc., and they have a large stock of brochures and leaflets available in the hallway for other Cornwall attractions.

The house is in a great location if you are wishing to explore Cornwall and visit the Scilly Isles.

Hubby really enjoyed the 'full English breakfast!'

Good pub within walking distance or two minutes drive, 'The Bath.' Lovely people.

The town centre is only a few minutes away, if you walk up the road from the Pendennis it's about five to ten minutes and the seafront is less than five minutes downhill. Cornish Pirates Rugby club at the bottom of Alexandra Rd.

Hazel keeps the garden and pot plants beautifully, giving a welcoming entrance to the property.

Newlyn is ten minutes walk along the seafront. The fish festival here is a fantastic day out!

Would recommend!

Room Tip: Room 4 is lovely. Spacious, en-suite with a comfy bed.

“Top Marks for this Excellent Guest House!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

All three rooms which we occupied proved to be light, tastfully furnished and generous in size. Everything about this delightful b & b showed that the owners were meticulous in everything involved in running a successful business. The English breakfast was generous and beautifully cooked. Nothing was too much trouble. Russell and Hazel gave 100% and we could'nt find a single flaw. Well done and highly recommendable.
