“Tired and Shabby....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2007

This has obviously been quite a grand hotel in it's day but is now extremely dated and shabby. Our bathroom smelt unpleasant and one of the windows in the bedroom was broken and covered over with a board. It advertises a car park but this is in fact a space round the side for about 5 cars which seems to be used for staff parking in the main, so quests have to pay to use the car park at the bottom of the road. On a plus note, the 2 guys running the hotel were very pleasant and helpful and the food was good tho' not very plentiful....I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to stay here again.....

“FRIENDLY HOTEL IN EXCELLENT LOCATION”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2007

We, two single girls, turned up to find a dining room full of old people, but they were checking out the next day, and didn't bother us - we were there for the nightlife.
Received a lovely welcome from the two gentlemen who run the hotel and were shown to a good size and clean room with all the facilities promised to us - even a car parking space.
Breakfast was what you would expect and set us up nicely for the day. The location is absolutely superb, walk to the end of the street, cross over and you are on Tolcarne Beach - beautiful, you are also then in pub zone, though you cannot hear this in the hotel. Oh yes, it also has a lift, which was handy for getting our bags up the stairs easily, though we did get a little lost finding our room, but that was probably us rather than the hotel! Overall, an enjoyable stay.

“Misled by Newmarket Holidays”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2007

This short break was booked through Newmarket Holidays who gave the impression in their brochure that the hotel was family run (It was not) and everyone was extremely happy who had used it in the past. By the end of the third day, many people on the coach had a compalint about the hotel. The rooms were extremely small, very basic and dirty. The only thing was the bed sheets. A small selection of my photographs are posted below. The food was worse than school dinners (remember them!). The whole feel of the hotel was 60's, very dated. I had an airing cupboard in my room which rattled all evening from people in other rooms running water. The view from my window was a back alleyway where the hotel had found it necessary to place barbed wire!. I will never stay there again. It was the worst experience of my life.

“Filthy small rooms and very poor value for money”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2007

The rooms were booked for a one-night stay in Newquay having spent a week in a lovely cottage on Lizard. On arrival that exterior of the hotel looked acceptable, however the dog mess on the front stairs was a good predictor of things to follow. The double rooms were very small, although this is not the main criticism. The principle issue for us was the general unwashed feel - worrying stains on fittings and the bedclothes, dust, very worn fittings and fixtures and a strong smell of smoke throughout the hotel. We decided to leave and asked for our money back (unsurprisingly, the first thing that happened when we checked in was to pay for the rooms in advance). For £75 we expected, at the very least, clean rooms.
