“Filthy Caravan”

We rented a caravan on this site (No. 56) hoping for a lovely holiday. From the moment we stepped into the caravan it felt unclean. There was mould everywhere. thick black stuff on the shower curtain. the toilet light pulley was black instead of the usual white. Opened the lid to the toilet and was faced with disgusting brown stuff, which was easily cleaned by us using a cheap 29p bottle of bleach, something the cleaner could have used.
There was what looked like several damp stains on the bedroom carpet again along with specks of mould on walls. Duvet on double bed didnt even fit the bed leaving gaps either side when two people laid in bed. Duvet on singles bed didnt even cover my two sons (17 & 12)
Kitchen sink draining board had thick black gunk down where the water should have drained down. Cutlery looked unwashed so we washed everything before use. Fridge door had mould all around the seal and the door didnt really shut probably.
Air filters in the ceiling where clogged full of dust and cobwebs.
The caravan was just pure filthy.

The campsite it self was quietish apart from what seemed like people in heavy boots tramping up and down their caravans early in the morning and late at night.

The good part was that the campsite was about 10 mins walk to a beautiful beach, which our two sons loved.

I will visit the beach again but never this campsite. Not until they sack the cleaner and update the caravans.

We rented a Portreath caravan, and found it to be clean and comfortable. The site is a good base for touring the area. The beach is a short walk and well worth it. Uncrowded sandy beach and clear sea. As many have said the new clubhouse restaurant and bar is very good and the food served is good value and quality. The entertainment was good and the staff certainly work hard at keeping the kiddies amused. The site is small compared to some that we have stayed on so don't expect to have everything on your doorstep, but there is so much to see and do in this area of Cornwall there is no reason to stay on site . Would definitely stay here again.

Great holiday park........ but not recommended camping!!! The showers broke down after the beach........... it started working again though that is why go in a carvan where one is there!!!! and the tents were to close!!!!!!! Although it would be good in a caravan........

The swimming pool was very good despite having leaves in it....... although liked the slide though despite the cold!!!!!!!!!!

The beach was fantastic and very good for surfing.....

Not an bad holiday park....... but go in a caravan!!!! :) Recommended!!! Awesome beach

Room Tip: Choose an caravan!!!!!

we arrived at 11am and were able to check in straight away. we had chosen a new caravan and were not dissapointed. the park was in astunning location and the staff were all brilliant. the entertainment staff worked so hard. they kept the kids of all ages entertained. the evening entertainment was excellent. we will be going back very soon

Room Tip: worth paying a few pounds more for newer caravans

“Beautiful area, average accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

Holywell bay is beautiful, the sand dunes amazing & a lovely walk after an evening meal BUT the caravan accommodation not brilliant. To be honest we spend very little time on site & the accommodation is adequate for our needs, they were clean although a little scruffy in places. The bed was a big issue for us! a double bed that you could feel the springs through & a duvet that barely touched each side of the bed. We hardly slept the 1st night as it was freezing & every time one of us moved the other was exposed - we did sort this issue by using the spare duvet & tucking one in each side & folding them into the middle - slept better but still a crap bed! The caravan's need a little money spending on them to bring them back to tip top condition. Would recommend a stay but don't expect top notch accomodation.
