I travelled with a crowd of girlfriends for a friends 50th birthday. We hadn't been to Cornwall before and having been looked after so excellently by the staff at the Beaconsfield Hotel we are already planning to go back. The Beaconsfield Hotel faces directly on to the sea and is comprised of three victorian houses. The hotel is charming, warm, friendly and the staff extremely welcoming. I, unfortunately, booked too late for a room with sea view but I visited the rooms of some of my friends and the view is spectacular. My room was perfectly fine, spotlessly clean with everything you would want, including tea/coffee making facilities, except for the fabulous view! The hotel is very well situated for walking to a variety of surrounding beaches and you will need to walk off the very generous full English breakfast. We only had the Saturday for sightseeing and asked the Receptionist for advice as to where to go. She suggested what turned out to the the perfect place to visit - Polperro - which is a little town that encapsulates the flavour of Cornwall. It's a bit of a drive from Newquay but on a short visit I would highly recommend it as the best place to visit. The streets are so narrow that you have to park your car at the top of the town and get a horse-drawn cart down into the town.
Our weekend in the Beaconsfield was so easy and stress free (except for the negotiation of the one-way system in Newquay!) that we plan to return next year to do the same again.
