Do you enjoy walking on eggshells? Do you relish the feeling that your very presence is a bit of an inconvenience and that anything you ask for, however reasonable, is a bit of an imposition? If so, this is your place!
I tried to give the owners of this provincial B&B the benefit of the doubt. Our rooms were OK; not the lap of luxury but clean and adequately equipped. Breakfast was OK and there was a nice aquarium in the breakfast room. Karen did try to look after us, provided a relatively warm welcome and was generally helpful. But her husband's attitude towards paying customers was absurd.
We had four rooms for our group the night before a family wedding. On the morning of the wedding there was a [very] small amount of to and fro between the rooms as we got ourselves prepared. John told me that this wasn't acceptable and further, muttered as I went back to my room, this was "a disgrace."
Minutes later Karen apologised for his outburst and told me that he'd recently had some serious health problems and 'wasn't himself' but I couldn't help thinking that if that was the case, why hadn't they simply cancelled our booking in advance and closed the place? If true, it would explain the sometimes tense atmosphere and awkwardness, Karen was operating in difficult circumstances and I sincerely hope things get better for them both.
Nonetheless, I've never been so insulted or appalled by a host's behaviour and for this reason, unfortunately there is no way I could recommend that anyone stay here.

This regrettable incident occured after one guest was asked politely not use our private area as a walk through to get to another part of our property.

Unfortunately I had recently suffered a stroke and for the most part was keeping away from the guests as I was still not well and as my speech had been affected my words didn't come out as they should but I know the phrase "a disgrace" was never used and my wife immediately offerered her apologies to the party concerned and explained that I was not well. The offended party accepted the apology and nothing more was mentioned and all seemed happy.
I have since written to the organiser of the party (his Mother) and apologised personally for the unfortunate incident but did not receive an answer. Quick enough to write a review though.
