“Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011 via mobile

Clean, quirky, full of interesting photos, books and ephemera. Just over half a mile from the town centre (steep walk but very pretty). Breakfast very nice with leaf tea and local ingredients. Bed very soft. Shower was rather too small for me but then I am on the large side. Super sea views from our room (6, Theodore's room), breakfast room and lounge. Easy to come and go as you please. Free Wi-Fi a bonus. Ample parking. Road seems busy during day but is quiet by night. Railway line next to house did not disturb us. Owner very nice (can't understand some of the comments on here about her!). Very easy to find as near A39. No disturbance from drifting noise even though hotel was full.

“Perfectly pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

I stayed here for one night when I was working in Truro. My room had a view of the sea, and also of Pendennis Castle - somewhat eerily lit at night! The room was adequate for an overnight, and had all I needed. Comfortable bed especially appreciated, as was the decently sized bathroom - not always the case in small B&B's! The whole place is very clean, which is something else I appreciate in B&Bs (and sadly, not always the case!) Breakfast was OK, if not overly generous in its proportions. My egg was poached to perfection though, and wonderfully fresh. Jonna, the proprietor got the balance right in terms of being there to offer helpful information, but not overwhelming with her presence. The price was very good - this place does offer value for money.

“Most unusual hotel..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

This hotel has a fabulous location, 5 mins walk from beach and 15 mins from the centre.
Our room was spacious and clean with lovely views; however these were the only pluses. We were greeted by an unfriendly/strange manageress and 100's of Victoria / Edwardian pictures everywhere. When entering our bedroom there was a little teddy bear on the bed which would have been a nice touch had the FREAKY Victorian / Edwardian pictures not been there. The room had a very eerie feeling and made us want to check out straight away.
The breakfast staff needs to look up the word 'hospitality' as not a smile crosses their faces.
All in all we felt the guest house was over priced an had a haunted feeling. If that’s your type of hotel then stay there, if you want a nice relaxed place to stay then keep looking.

“Clean, Tidy...that it's.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

You walk into Hawthorne Dene Hotel, an old Victorian house.... and you're hit with old Victorian... mixed with 70's and 80's decor. It is a shrine to colonial times with military memorabilia and heavy mahogany furnishings. Was expecting to see an old retired major, with handle-bar moustache sitting around.
Bedroom big and bathroom nice and clean but hated the two creepy teddy bears in the room. The bed is soft and dreamy - loved it, with lovely clean sheets. The place is old and tired, a little steep in price for what you get. Yet is 5 min walk down the road and you are near the water. Did not feel welcomed in this establishment and the manageress was very abrupt. Maybe a bad week. Maybe she didn't know people from Northern Ireland took holidays. Falmouth a lovely town and will be very happy to see it again.

Room Tip: On bookings it does ask if you would like a King size bed and he did get that. Maybe call hotel and...

“Comfortable & Relaxed with Good Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

We had 4 rooms, all of which were clean and well presented. The style of the decor suited the style and character of the building. Staff were helpful and obliging when we arrived a few hours early. The rooms were clean and the beds freshly made. There was adequate towels etc. Breakfast was of a varied choice and well cooked / served. Great value for money and a good location. There was enough parking which for the area is a bonus. Almost no road noise and a good nights sleep was achieved by all. Would happily stay again.
A real charmer with character. Great for couples and or families.
