After carefully reading through all of the great reviews on this hotel, I booked even though I was not over impressed by the photos on the website. In the hotels favour, it was well situated, being a five minute walk to the beach and a 15 minute walk to the centre/town. The bed was very, very comfortable and we had no issues with cleanliness. On the minus side, the staff were not at all friendly, especially the morning waitress, who did not smile or even say good morning! the hotel owner was probably more shy than unfriendly, but we were still not over enamoured. Breakfast itself was ok...but... we were given a minute portion of butter, rations on the jam and marmalade and had to ask for milk, a bowl, etc on the first morning. The windows were double glazed but pretty useless and although the road was very quiet after 11pm (so don't be put off regarding the noise issue) they did a poor job in keeping the traffic noise out during the day. The shower was just about sufficient to get you wet and anyone who was a little oversized, would have trouble moving in there. We did however, really like Falmouth and would certainly visit again, not at the Hawthorne Dean though.
