“Comfortable & Relaxed with Good Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

We had 4 rooms, all of which were clean and well presented. The style of the decor suited the style and character of the building. Staff were helpful and obliging when we arrived a few hours early. The rooms were clean and the beds freshly made. There was adequate towels etc. Breakfast was of a varied choice and well cooked / served. Great value for money and a good location. There was enough parking which for the area is a bonus. Almost no road noise and a good nights sleep was achieved by all. Would happily stay again.
A real charmer with character. Great for couples and or families.

“Good location, comfortable bed, could be more friendly!”

The Hawthorne Dene has a lot of character and was in a good location for the wedding we were attending. I was really pleased to get a single and double room for 1 night, rather than it having to be 2 nights which seems important at other places. The owner was good at accomodating us earlier than the usual time so that we could get ready. On arrival however, I didn't feel as though she was entirely friendly but figured perhaps I was being paranoid. After the wedding my husband and I slept well in an extremely comfortable bed. At breakfast, the other staff were again not particulaly friendly and whilst the food was good and I was pleased to see gluten free bread on the menu (it rarely is!) I felt a little disappointed by the staff.

“Thought it would be a fab place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

After carefully reading through all of the great reviews on this hotel, I booked even though I was not over impressed by the photos on the website. In the hotels favour, it was well situated, being a five minute walk to the beach and a 15 minute walk to the centre/town. The bed was very, very comfortable and we had no issues with cleanliness. On the minus side, the staff were not at all friendly, especially the morning waitress, who did not smile or even say good morning! the hotel owner was probably more shy than unfriendly, but we were still not over enamoured. Breakfast itself was ok...but... we were given a minute portion of butter, rations on the jam and marmalade and had to ask for milk, a bowl, etc on the first morning. The windows were double glazed but pretty useless and although the road was very quiet after 11pm (so don't be put off regarding the noise issue) they did a poor job in keeping the traffic noise out during the day. The shower was just about sufficient to get you wet and anyone who was a little oversized, would have trouble moving in there. We did however, really like Falmouth and would certainly visit again, not at the Hawthorne Dean though.

“Cosy and twee”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2011

Very fussy decor, trying too hard with rooms named after teddies, and a toy with a message on the bed. Quite a way out of town if you're on foot, with an uphill walk back. Very nice breakfast, free range ingredients.

“Hotel with an old fashioned feel but excellent service, big rooms and good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

This hotel, as mentioned in previous reviews, certainly does have an old fashioned feel, with lots of old pictures on the walls and period furnishings. We loved it! The owner gave us a very warm welcome, and put herself out to give us an early breakfast so that we could get a train home.
We have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to others. The all-day-for-a-pound bus stops nearby.
The free wi-fi reaches every room.
