“Full In January !”

Had a wonderful stay in the Falmouth Beach Hotel end of January beginning of February 2012. Five days of bliss. We were in room 402 which was excellent. Good sized double bed, warm room (Heating was set to 2 and it went to 5!) even though there was a frost and minus six outside! The room was always cleaned to a high standard and could not be faulted. A lift was situated very close to our room also.
The previous poster went into far more detail than I but has pretty much covered everything. Would love to come back here in the summer! For a hotel of 400+ to be working at capacity in January says it all. Having stayed in similarly priced establishments this one was the best.
The staff were the best in the business and seemed to be "Local".
Cannot praise highly enough.

“Large Coach Party stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

My wife & I were part of a three coach trip staying at this hotel for three nights. our room was on the third floor accessed by small lift or side stairs (a sat nav woulkd be handy in the corridors!). On entering the room, one places ones electronic key card in the slot next to the door to power the whole room and lights. We had a nice spacious room with a King Size double bed side cabinets & lights, chest of drawers and sea view through two large double glazed windows Two of which could be opened a little for fresh air. The room was equipped with a multi channel flat screen TV, hot drinks equipment, dressing table/desk with drawers (all of which were clean!), a cupboard style large wardrobe, two arm chairs and a comfortable sofa and it felt nice and warm although the radiator(with thermostatic tap) was not on. A reasonably priced room service is available where required. The small en suite bathroom was clean and had bath with shower over with glass side screen, a toilet (that flushed - not all hotels have that!) a hand basin (with old style taps) and a small alcoved mirror above. There was always hot water available throughout our stay. On the electrically heated towel rail were two clean, fresh smelling fluffy bath sheets and hand towels. The room and bed linen were nice and clean although the room was not recently decorated. The comfortable bed had a barely adequate sized duvet and two counterpanes. We slept well throughout our stay. We dined and breakfasted in the large, attractive, Pendennis room. First course at dinner was served and then we had delicious carvery meals (salad alternative to cooked vegetables was always available and also a vegetarian dish). All the meats were properly cooked, lean and very tasty, as were the gravy and vegetables (although mnore alternatives to a roast meal might be welcome). Sweets were sufficiently varied and also tasty. I mainly had soup starters because they were good. Drinks (for a 4* hotel) were reasonably priced. Cooked breakfasts were also served from the same carvery heated servery - or one could order poached or scrambled eggs, etc., and coffee, tea and toast were served to order. Service at all times was good and all the hotel staff were very courteous, friendly and efficient. We had humorous and enjoyable musical acts and quizes each night that help to make our whole stay that much more welcoming and pleasureable. This hotel has quite adequate facilities to accommodate some disabled guests. The public lounges, bars and toilets were always clean and the bar service was good. The hotel is slightly elevated, has good parking facilities and a neat garden surrounding it. It is ideally placed for a large sandy beach, coastal path and public gardens. We are seniors but we managed to walk easily over the low hill behind the hotel into the town centre one free Sunday afternoon (a bus service is available on weekdays), where we found a very well stocked Trago Mills store covering building, DIY, household, stationary and many other goods. Further along the main shopping street is access to a steamer quay with a number of available sea and river trips. Also within walking distance of the hotel, is the Pendennis Castle in the care of English Heritage on a rocky peninsula. This historical fort has open grounds and lots of places to explore and hands on things for children (of all ages!). We did not try the "Beach Club" Liesure facilities. Yes, some might find niggly things at this hotel - but I spoke to many of my much experienced fellow travellers in our 120 strong party and all seemed very satisfied. My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely be prepared to stay there again, DB&B or full board. Other guests and parties were also staying at that time without any apparent loss of service that I could see or hear of. In our view, it is also reasonably priced and it also offers special deals for special events.

Room Tip: Ask for what you would like, "a nice view", family room, a "quiet room", etc., I...

So lovely to hear that you wouldn't change anything about your stay and that you enjoyed Falmouth, it's also fantastic in the summer so I hope you might think about coming back and staying with us again.

“My Daughters Wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Had my daughters wedding here last September. Cannot fault the hotel or staff. they all worked hard to make the weekend a most memorable occasion. They catered for our every need from the first meeting right through to the end of the weekend. Gemma was most helpful and kept us informed all the time prior to the wedding. We cannot thank them enough.

Room Tip: Get one with a sea view

“New Years Eve”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Stayed there for NYE to enjoy the celebrations. The hotel is in a great location and right next to the beach and afords great views of the Cornish coast.

The staff were friendly and very helpful although I felt the hotel needed a little update as some of the interior looks dated. I also used the spa which was nice but very busy and full of children which was noisy so did not make for a relaxing time. I felt the hotel could hav limited the amount of children allowed in the pool area.

The rooms were clean and tidy but like the hotel needs a little bit of an update. However bed was comfortable.

The food and entertainment laid on for the NYE celebrations were great and in the end had a great time. I would recommend staying at this hotel but it doesn't blow you away

Many thanks for posting your comments on your New Year's Eve stay, we're very proud of our NYE celebrations and it's great to hear that you had such a good time.

As it was such a busy night of the year, the hotel was fully booked and as such, was busy in the Beach Club. Children must be accompanied by an adult in the pool at all times, and are not permitted in the pool after 7.30pm.

Thank you again for giving us your feedback, happy new year! We hope to see you again in 2012.

“Christmas 3 day break2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We decided to go away for Christmas Eve, Christmas night and Boxing night. We had heard good reports about the FB Hotel so decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed because we had a lovely room with balcony overlooking the beach which we'd paid extra for. The room was not large but adequate just for the 3 nights. The bed was two twins pushed together which was spacious but the duvet was meant for a king size bed, so lack of extra cover meant there were one or two tussles over that during the nights! Two single duvets would have served us better. Maybe we should have asked! Our room was warm, nicely decorated, very clean "but" the furniture was dreadful pine and very shabby and scratched/worn. (When I made my booking I asked not to be put in a room with pine furniture, but hey ho, someone wasnt listening.) There was only a dressing table with small drawers and two small bedside cabinets, so if we had been staying longer there would not have been adequate space to put things away without stuffing the drawers. A chest of drawers would have suited us better. The lift was right outside our room (420) but any worries about late night revellers exiting the lift didnt happen and our room was peaceful with only the sound of the sea to lull us to sleep. The flat screen TV worked well but strangely, every so often the signal would be interrupted and the picture would freeze!

All staff were friendly, helpful and from what we ascertained, local men and women which we found refreshing. The food was carvery style for every meal but we knew this in advance so were prepared for it. However, if we had been staying longer we likely would have tired of hoteplate/carvery food. There was a dearth of green vegetables too. The chefs were helpful, smiley and happy to provide portions in keeping with appetite, large or small! One thing which did vex us was the random service from dining room staff. On a few occasions we had to chase up our order for drinks, a follow-on course and other requisites. There didnt seem to be any "command and control" and one evening we observed two female members of staff who spent absolutely ages polishing glasses and chatting at a service area just inside the main restaurant door, when we were chafing to order drinks. They simply didn't look our way so we had to keep trying to catch the eye of other staff. The dining room was very busy so this was not without its frustrations. There were plenty of very nice and cheerful staff, but there was a laxity or maybe lack of training to ensure that their set of tables was serviced in such a way that no-one was overlooked for too long. As I say, it was all a bit random/hit and miss. All the entertainment was high quality and very talented. Guitarists at lunch time, singers and a brass band for carol singing in the evening. The were all very good.

Overall we were not disappointed with our stay which was independently booked. This hotel hosts a lot of coaching holidays and seems popular with senior citizens but its also ideally located, just across the road from a lovely beach, for families too. We didnt use the spa (forgot my swimsuit) but the gym seemed well equipped and the pool very inviting.

Overall we enjoyed out festive break and would not rule out using this hotel again.

Room Tip: See my report. Sea view is wonderful but it does overlook the road so there might be traffic noise d...

We really appreciate the time you've taken to write this review, thank you very much for your feedback. It was a pleasure to have you with us for Christmas and I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your festive season with us.

We'd love to welcome you back so if you do decide to stay with us again, please let us know if there's anything additional you need during your stay. I'm sorry the duvet wasn't quite right for your needs, we can certainly provide alternative singles if required, and we're in the process of updating our linen to Superking size for zip and link beds.

Regarding the furniture, all of our rooms are fitted with pine furniture so I'm sorry that you weren't made aware of this when booking. We have just upgraded all of our televisions to flat screen and we have experienced some teething issues with the switching of the signal but this should be resolved very soon. I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed dining with us, although let me apologise for the less than expedient service you encountered, this is certainly not the norm.

We're delighted that you enjoyed yourselves so well, thank you again for letting us know.
