It is regrettable that you feel this way about staying at Chester Backpackers Hostel. It is neither our policy to deceive or offer delusions of grandeur with regard to the service we provide. We enjoy a 2 star rating controlled by a Visit Britain adjudicator and deliver exactly that with many free services for our guests to enjoy. We have an average 80% rating from Hostel World, Hostel Bookers, Eviivo and Late Rooms provided by thousands of guests who are more than happy with our service and the budget accommodation we provide.

We have a hospitality and staff rating averaging 85% between these booking agents and at NO TIME are the staff or management rude and statements to the contrary are slanderous.

I would like to point out that since your booking in October, 2010, Chester Backpackers has been considerably refurbished including the room in which you stayed which now has a Free view television and free wifi which wasn’t promoted on the booking channels at your time of booking. The room has a double window to reduce noise from the main road which is largely quiet from 10pm till 7am and is a consideration although we do state categorically that “we are 5minutes walk and 0.3miles from the city centre!”

It is the responsibility of all our guests who reserve a room or bed at the hostel to ensure that they read the TERMS AND CONDITIONS for the booking agents that they have used and conduct themselves appropriately with STAFF AND GUESTS.

It is also the responsibility of guests to ensure with regard to access and disablilty, that they make the appropriate enquiries prior to booking. This couple however did not have a disability. The agent through which you booked (in this case Hostel World) does indicate that there is no lift. Should a guest require a lift and a 5 star room then you most certainly have booked the wrong type of accommodation and most certainly will be required to pay considerably more for a double ensuite room.

We are not a hotel, a guest house or a bed and breakfast. We are a friendly, clean and sociable 2star "Mock Tudor" hostel that provides the most affordable self service accommodation for the budget conscious visiting lovely Chester.
