“Pleasant hotel with very attentive staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

On checking-in we received a very warm welcome, including a map of Chester, walking directions to town and recommendations of what to do in the area.
OK the room isn't super-modern, but other reviews seem rather out-of-proportion to the fact that this is really rather a nice hotel for the price. The room was clean, adequate storage space, colour TV, shower ensuite, nice view onto the garden and road outside.
The breakfast included in the price offered yoghurts, fruit segments, a range of cereals, juices and plentiful toast. It was only £5 more for cooked breakfast, we didn't try but menu indicated it was from quality local suppliers.
Lounge, bar, and reception area are smart and contemporary.
It's only about a 15-20 minute walk to town, the route is not remotely dangerous-looking as one reviewer has unhelpfully suggested. If you can't be bothered to walk then buses are frequent starting early and finishing late. If you are the kind of person that thinks a 15-20 minute walk is unreasonable you are probably better off choosing a different holiday destination rather than blaming the hotel as many of the sightseeing activities in Chester involve walking.

“Pleasant and people friendly hotel with a warm welcome”

We first stayed here 25 years ago. it remains a good way to get to know Chester. Having stayed at many hotels charging six or seven times the price, the Chester Court is highly recommended.

“If only the hotel had been as good as the welcome”

Having booked this for me and my girlfriend to visit chester for a few days i had high hopes-8.2 rating on bookings....Well, the apperance and welcome as we checked in was faultless and we were told we were in the annex part of the hotel room 11, fine.....the room was nothing like the photo but hey it was clean and big so all's good. then it started-we were too far from the hotel to get the advertised internet in the room and there was not hot chocolate in the tea and coffee facilties(much to my girlfriends dissmay)...we walked the 15/20 mins into chester, hahaha not the 9mins as advertised...and then the next morning the 'free' continental breakfast-wow what a joke, i travel in europe a lot and my GF is spanish so we were expecting at least a crossant?...some fresh fruit?.....fresh bread? oh no you had best be happy with cerial and toast and a tinned prune or two, come on its not 1970 anymore-really poor chester court...

.....all in all we had a great stay but there are 100's of hotels in chester offering the same and more for a better price and we left feeling like we should have had more for our money....sorry chester court hotel you gotta step it up, sort out the little things because they are what is important. :)

“Rooms were NOTHING like the pictures”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

On arriving at this hotel i thought it was a good location. From outside the Hotel really did look very nice. The reception area / bar / lounge is decorated nicely and the receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. We went up to our room, room 5 and shocked isn't the word... I can not describe the jaw dropping dissapointment I felt. I have never seen such an awful room in real life nor slap stick comedy! It single handedly ruined our weekend away. We politely ask if there were any other rooms and we were moved into the court yard to the "superior room". Room 17. This room was by no means luxury. Incredibly old decor, old furniture, old bathroom (old tiles, black windowsill!). The room was bigger than the first room tho which was a relief. (room 5 was the size of the bed with a small gap around the sides to maneuver) I asked my partner why he had booked such a place. I asked if he had looked at pictures and he said yes. I looked at the pictures on my mobile internet and the pictures on the internet were nothing like the rooms we had seen on site. I can only imagine they have refurbished a couple of rooms and left the rest of the hotel at this poor dated standard (room 17 is dated and of low standard but room 5 is indescribable!!) I don't mean to be rude and believe me when I say I am an incredibly polite and friendly person whom has never felt the urge to review/complain before but I was so upset and genuinely felt robbed.

“Pleasant but basic stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the period of a few years. Most recently I visited Chester for a friend's birthday and I stayed for one night from 30th October to 31st October 2011 in room 16. Upon arrival at the hotel, as always I was warmly welcomed. I stayed in a double room at the very top of the hotel. The room is decently sized with an en-suite. The bed was very comfortable and the room was extremely clean.

The decor in the room is a little outdated and unfortunately the tv wasn't working but as I didnt occupy the room other than to sleep and get ready for my friend's party, I didn't feel the need to let the staff know. One annoying feature of the room was that the length of the cord on the kettle wasn't long enough to reach the plug when the kettle was resting on the windowsill so I had to place the kettle on the floor.

I didn't stay for breakfast so am unable to review this. I feel the hotel is a little pricey but the location is fantastic - just a short walk to the city centre and railway station. I would stay here again mainly because the staff are so pleasant and the rooms are consistently clean.
