“Very disappointed”

I understand the hotel is undergoing a refit but you couldn't even get a drink at the bar there was a promotion on for bottles of Stella £1.50 but they had none all they could offer was a glass of wine at £4.50 , trying to find any staff was hard work we have stayed at this hotel several times and been more than happy but will certainly not be staying again .

I wouldn't stay here unless I had to for work. Its very dated, which means its noisy, tv's are rubbish (& soon won't work as no freeview), walls & ceilings are paper thin. On the plus, clean towels & the room wasn't dirty.

“The Dené. A visit to remember.”

I arrived to the Dené in the early evening and was greeted by very enthusiastic and approachable staff members in the reception. Looking around the hotel, my first reactions were great, and the décor brought some lovely childhood memories. Some may say that the hotel has aged badly, but I think it brought out a sense of youthful nostalgia. For those who enjoy the odd tipple, the Dené can only be appreciated like a fine wine. If you're not quite the
connoisseur you'd wished to be, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find a bar which serves a range of both alcoholic and soft drinks located near the reception area. Water is free on tap of course for those people with a slightly lesser budget.

The room itself was a lesson in gorgeous simplicity. The centrepiece of the room was a pair of lovely, sumptuous beds; and it was decorated by numerous paintings which only added another dimension to its already homely qualities. It wasn't until I'd completely soaked up my surroundings did I venture to the bathroom, which was both clean and fully refurbished.

All in all, my stay was fantastic and I'd definitely recommend the Dené to anyone who wants to experience a hotel bursting with character and friendliness. Trust me, you won't regret it.

“No heating, bad water, bad hygiene”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We booked thru late rooms for two nights as we wanted to go to the Christmas markets in Mancheater. When we arrived they had no record of the booking. After a bit of searching the girl on reception found it and checked us in to room 63. On on our journey to the room there was numerous evidence of the refurb work that was going on. Tins of paint, stepladders and such. When we entered the room we were pleasantly surprised with the size of it, this turned out to be the only positive. The room was freezing cold even though there was two big radiators, neither of which seemed to work. Nice little 14'' tv that had no program's tuned in, wafer thin pillows that were no use to anyone. The worst was yet to come, the bath/shower had no safety features at all. Turning the 'hot' water on we found that wasn't working either, just freezing cold. I went back down to reception to advise them about the water and heating, they confirmed they'd had complaints and had called an engineer. Luckily my partner's parents only lived a few miles away and we borrowed a heater from them. We went out the following day, on checking out the next morning we complained about the room only to be told that everyone in that block had been moved. We asked why they'd not contacted us and was told "we knocked on the door and got no answer". We are very dissapointed in the service we received and would stress for no one to stay here until the refurb has been completed, which I would say would be at least a year.

“Enjoyable stay many thanks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011 via mobile

Me and my other half stayed here for 2 nights in November and really enjoyed our time here. It's only a mile drive to the zoo which has free parking. And only A fiver in a taxi to town for a drin at night. It has a bar which is handy for a night cap or pre drink. Found the staff friendly and bedding made up each day. No faults here. Even though building work was happening below didn't effect any services.
