I can't believe that I have only left one review of this hotel, as I have just returned from another wonderful two-night stay at what is possibly the finest hotel in the North West. My friend and I return year after year at this time of year (January) to enjoy a relaxing break and I can honestly say that the exceptional standard of service and hospitality have never dipped. This year we were celebrating my X0th birthday and I was delighted to find a card and chocolates awaiting me in my room - just another thoughtful gesture that this hotel is justly renowned for. Service is excellent, unobtrusive and typically warm. Food is wonderful - we ate from the set price 1996 menu (not an outdated relic from the past, just the year of the hotel's 'birth'), which was varied and interesting. The rooms are all excellent, and we are slowly working our way through all of them! Aware that the rooms are kept (perhaps overly) warm, we immediately took measures to ensure that we did not roast and adjusted the radiators to suit (they are very responsive). I honestly cannot fault this exceptional hotel - it is well deserving of its many awards and hopefully can look forward to many more!

Stayed 2 nights as they had an offer on at the time. Found it to be an excellent choice. Very friendly people. Lovely room. Food was very good. Service first class. Would recommend without any hesitation. Was a mile from city centre but on a bus route and taxis were not expensive. Lots of parking at the hotel if travelling by car.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Green Bough for an extended "Xmas shopping experience" as my wife likes to think of it. I like it because of the many pubs in Chester, and now because we have discovered the Green Bough. I travel a lot with business and have stayed in Hotels worldwide from the basic to the grand luxe. The Green Bough is in a different class and provides a higher quality experience, smaller and more personal, and I would not hesitate to recommend it for couples and for business visits in the Cheshire area. The service was first class, and the food excellent, particularly the sumptuous breakfast. It is now on my favourite list and I definitely would return.

I was on a business trip to Chester and have tried numerous local hotels before. All have presented with varying degrees of disappointment.

Until I found the Green Bough I was beginning to think that "Poor to Dreadful" was the norm for Chester's hospitality.

However -

Even before I had checked in, I was met in the car park with a cheery welcome and an offer to assist with my luggage.

Check-in was pleasant and followed by a mini tour of the ground floor facilities - restaurant, lounge, bar etc.

The attention to detail in the bedroom and bathroom was impressive - good quality towels, toileteries and coffee making bits, comfortable bed and large TV.

Only one minor negative point, as mentioned by one other reviewer, the bedroom was incredibly hot but soon rectified with the radiator thermostats.

My pre-dinner drink in the bar / lounge was a pleasant experience and the restaurant 3 course £25 set meal was delicious and well presented.

Wine is a little overpriced but not so much as to feel that "one has had one's leg lifted"

Breakfast was extremely good. A large choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals followed by good selection of hot breakfast options.

Service at both dinner and breakfast was friendly, efficient and very professional.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to stay in Chester - Don't bother looking anywhere else unless you enjoy boarding house standards
