“Amazing place. Thank You”

We were lucky enough to stay at Carden Park for 3 nights over New Year. There were 4 of us in 2 rooms. We were all out in the courtyard and the rooms were large and well furnished with easily controlled heating. The views over the grounds are spectacular. The staff were wonderful, friendly and happy! We had been in September and the Duty Managerr emembered us which was nice. New Years Eve was fantastic - the Carden Suite was beautifully decorated, staff were friendly and efficient and the food was out of this world. If anything let it down the group were possibly the weakest link. We had breakfast and dinner in Redmonds for the rest of our stay and the food was of the same high quality. I had 2 Spa treatments and my husband had one as well. The Spa and Leisure Club are of a very high standard. However the complimentary bathrobes are maybe best suited to a size 12 or below and you have to walk back through Spa reception to get to the treatment area. This is a relaxing and tranquil space and the whole experience was well worth the money. The swimming pool, sauna, aromatherapy room and jacuzzi were well used by our group, the ice cold bucket experience less so! However some parents seem to think it is acceptable to take boys aged 8-10 into the ladies changing room to get changed. These are communal rooms with only 1 cubicle enclosed by a curtain. It left me and other ladies feeling uncomfortable and we were stood clutching our towels around us, as we had been in the showers, until the boys had changed. I appreciate it would be very hard for the hotel to police this as all guests go through the same door to the changing rooms. ~Morgans Bar was also well used by our group and the staff were unfailingly polite and efficient even when run off their feet. It seemed that every guest in the hotel was in there one afternoon!
This was our 3rd or 4th New Year at Carden Park and we will definately be back.

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms are bigger and have a dressing area with large well-lit mirror

“what a treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

If you have to spend your money anywhere for a short getaway spend it here. The hotel has a warm welcoming atmosphere with its cosy fires, library and wonderful grounds. There are lots of activities to take part for adults and children alike and our meal in the restaraunt was nothing short of outstanding. Really good value if you can get a package including a meal and not far from chester town centre. The spa is wonderful with underfloor heating. Just a lovely relaxing top class experience that is fantastic value for money.

Room Tip: always ask to see if there is an upgrade

“Will definitely return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We've just returned from a 2-night stay at the Carden Park as a treat for my dad's 60th birthday. I booked back in October and at the time of booking mentioned that it was for a special occasion. They remembered this and left a card in his room wishing him a happy birthday which I thought was a very nice touch.

We booked a Golf View King room for my dad and myself, my partner and our 2 year old Daughter stayed in a Standard King room. They'd put the rooms next to each other which was great and we weren't in the main building but in the rooms on the side. Having read some of the previous reviews regarding the noise from wedding parties etc I think this was probably a good thing. The hotel as you drive up to it is magnificent and the setting/grounds are lovely. The rooms were immaculately clean and well decorated and spacious. It's worth paying the extra if you can for the golf view king because the room was huge and the view across the course lovely.

It's only about a 15-20 min drive from the centre of Chester and about 2 miles up the road is a pub called the Egerton Arms where we had a lovely meal on the Saturday night; I'd highly recommend it there.

Breakfast was very good, my dad reckoned it was 'the best hotel breakfast' he'd ever had! We didn't eat an evening meal at the hotel so I'm not sure what this is like.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay with just a few niggles to mention;

-We found out from a letter in our room that the spa was undergoing a refurbishment which affected the changing facilities (the letter suggested you change into a robe in your room and then traipse over to the spa?!) I feel quite strongly that we should have been made aware of this prior to our arrival.
-The friendliness of the staff was quite inconsistent; they were either very friendly or not very helpful at all as was the case with a male member of staff in the spa who was borderline rude when speaking to us/having another conversation with someone else in the background. He couldn't be bothered giving directions to the male changing area which at the time was upstairs and didn't offer us towels.
-The children's play area doesn't have anything for younger children - My Daughter is 2 and the climbing frame was too big for her to play on safely.
-The pool and surrounding area were quite cold, as was the jacuzzi.

I know this sounds like a bit of a list but they were only minor things and wouldn't put us off returning. It's a lovely hotel and somewhere we definitely hope to return to. I spent a lot of time reviewing hotels in the area and am very glad I made this choice, we all had a fantastic time there.

Room Tip: Definitely worth paying for the rooms overlooking the golf course.

After reviewing hotels in this area we are pleased that you chose to stay at Carden Park whilst celebrating your Dad's 60th Birthday. We are especially pleased that he found his breakfast to be the best hotel breakfast he had ever had. Thank you for also mentioning your rooms being immaculately cleaned and well decorated and spacious. We are also pleased that you enjoyed the views surrounding the hotel. During your visit however we had been updating our leisure facilities. We are sorry if this caused you any inconvenience but they are now fully open and much improved. We have also noted your comment regarding a male member of staff on reception and do apologise for his manner. Overall it's reassuring to know that you had a fantastic time and that you hope to return. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write.

“Escape to the country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I stayed here for one night in January as a guest at a wedding held in the hotel.

The first thing that strikes you about this hotel is the scale of the grounds - entering down the mile long drive you can't fail to be impressed as the grand main building comes into view. The golf course outside looked well maintained and seemed to be popular even on a damp British winters day.

Finding your way to reception from the residents parking area at the back is a little confusing - this is a big hotel so be prepared to do some walking to get around! The staff at the reception desk were very quick and polite; I was impressed that my room was ready in spite of the fact that I had arrived well in advance of the advertised time, enabling me to freshen up and get changed before the days big event.

My room was a king sized room and very very spacious. Bathroom was relatively standard, nothing special but perfectly functional with a few toiletries provided. The view from the small window in my room was negligible (mostly of the roof of the adjacent building) but the sheer size of the room itself more than compensated for that. The bed was a super king size, a good 6 foot wide and very comfortable. There was also a sofa, two armchairs and a desk in the room, as well as a decent sized flat screen tv.

The wedding and reception were held in the 'Shooting Lodge' which really was a brilliant venue and decked out beautifully for the occasion. My only qualm about the hotel at all was that the drinks in both bars were very expensive - around £6 for a single spirit and mixer and even more for a large glass of distinctly average wine.

The breakfast buffet in Redmonds Restaurant was delicious with a wide variety of foods to suit every taste. I enjoyed indulging in the full cooked breakfast which was all fresh and well cooked; however there were plenty of alternatives including cereals, muesli, fruit, porridge and some very sinful (but delicious!) looking pastries.

All in all I would definite visit here again; hopefully next time finding the time to check out the spa facilities and make the most of the beautiful grounds.
