“Clean, basic, value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We got one of the special £19 for a room deals. The room was clean, the location was great but it was a bit noisy. Our bed was a bit uncomfortable to for £19 it was a bargain.

“Great value”

This travelodge is one of the newer ones so the rooms are a decent standard. I got the room for £15 each in the sale so I was pleased to get a decent hotel very close to the city centre.
The location is great, right on the edge of Northgate, Tesco Express is next door, there's an indian restaurant at the top of the street. It's very easy to drive to from the motorway and very easy to drive straight out of Chester towards Wales or thee Zoo without having to navigate one way systemm or such.
Ok so there's no car park but the public car park is just a stone's throw away (when you see the first sign for Gorse Stacks it looks like a tiny car park, there's a much bigger part of it just round the corner but really the first section is less far to walk to the hotel :). We arrived our first day at 3, after which the caar park is free so no fee for the first day. as Hubby was unloading our luggage I paid for the following day's parking and put the ticket in the screen. However, if you are going out for the day you may only need to buy 3-4 hours as it's only chargeable from 7am.
We ate a great meal just up the road at the Pied Bull which is a lovely old pub.

“Weekend in Chester”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I have stayed in many Travelodges on my travels and yet this is the one which I always seem to have problems in. On arrival there was a problem with with my booking, I was told that I was not in the system as I had booked too early,I'm glad I'd printed off my reservation for evidence. After lots of typing and questions to a supervisor, I was given the key to the room. As I had booked for 2 nights I asked if I was able to have the key programmed for both nights, as previously I had stayed for longer and had to get it updated every day which was a big inconvenience, as staff are often in other parts of the hotel doing other duties. I was assured that this was programmed for the 2 nights.
When I got to the room, it was very cold, the heater was hardly working, and the room's light was flickering like the sign of The Bates Motel in the film Psycho!! Thankfully the hot water was working.
As planned, I was out all day on Saturday and returned at 1am on the Sunday morning. When I got to the door, the allegedly programmed key did not work so I had to wait for the receptionist to come and open the door, then I had to go through the whole check in process again even though I had all of my things in the room and I was ready to fall into bed. This problem only ever seems to happen in this Travelodge, and although I have told them about it, nothing is ever done to resolve the problem.
On a plus side, the cleaning staff were very friendly, after the first night I had run out of milks for drinks so they topped me up when I asked them for more, and I was able to get rid of my litter and used towels rather than have them lying around in the room until later in the day.
The hotel has an excellent location, but the room was poor this visit, and the checking in system is highly annoying.

“Family of 4 for £40. What more do you need.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

My family stayed just one night. And for £40 it was just right. Although there had been an error on my booking the receptionist quickly resolved it and we got a family room without any problems.
As always with Travelodge it was sparce but functional. The shower was great. Breakfast in the Cafe was very good, really lovely crispy bacon. With the kids eating free was a bargin.
There is a Tesco Express next door which is great and free parking after 6pm on saturday just down the road.
Not nearly as noisy as we were expecting considering it is a city centre hotel.
All in all a good stay.

“Basic accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Ideal base for overnight stay or similar but very basic.
The rooms and hotel itself were very clean and staff pleasant and helpful.
We only paid £12 per night on a saver offer so couldn't complain but would not like to pay full price.
Beds a bit hard for my liking and mirror is on the opposite side of the room from the nearest plug socket which makes it impossible to dry your hair and look in the mirror at the same time.
If you are just wanting cheap and cheerful no frills then I would recommend this hotel. It has a cafe/bar which we didn't use so cannot comment and a tesco express next door which is very handy.
Gorse Stacks car park is just round the corner and is free after 3pm and you can put a ticket on the night before which starts at 7am the next morning.
Only a 5min walk into centre of town so ideal base for shopping but if you are looking for a romantic getaway then you should look for somewhere else.
