“Great food, stunning location.”

I was invited to the Petit Champ while on a business trip to Sark and was lucky enough to eat there twice during my visit. The food was extremely good, I believe the Hotel or Chef has 2 AA rozettes however more important to me is the source of the food in any place I visit. The manager answered all my questions with refreshing openness and explained that nearly all the ingredients were sourced from within the Island. This sometimes leads to a limited choice but I guess it means the chef must be even more inventive. I enjoyed the meals in which Sark lamb and beetroot featured prominently and enjoyed knowing the story behind it.

The hotel has a beautiful location and the views out from the cliffs over to Herm, Breqou and Guernsey are simply some of the best in the world. The hotel was a good place to be for our meetings and very quiet.

“Its all about the food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

The hotel is very welcoming the staff cannot do more to make you feel very welcome.
The rooms are clean and well appointed. There are no TVs in the rooms so dont expect to be sitting in front of one all evening. This encourages interaction with other guests and the staff. In the summer with good light its all about the fresh air the garden and the location.

The best bit is the food all that is missing is the Michelin stars, the food is easily the best on the whole island. The menu is local and seasonal and over a week i ate very well with a new menu every night. Nothing disappointed except having to leave and eat else where.

Room Tip: the sea view rooms are the best

“Petit Champ revisited”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

The new style Hotel Petit Champ is something of an enigma
to visitors like ourselves who have been visiting for
over thirty years & perhaps used to status quo.

Firstly the staff are first class & in certain cases
excellent. The quality of care is beyond approach.

The new manager, who impressed us tells us he is
permanent & this is good. Unsubstantiated rumours float
around as to why his predecessor departed the business on
two occasions.

Food at the “PC” has always been outstanding & this is
still the case. However cuisine has gone “nouveau”. This
means there is plenty of porcelain visible through the
food. After a day of walking cycling & swimming there are
plenty of calories to replace. As one guest commented “
we’re not going to put on weight this holiday”.

We understand this hotel is now part of the Barclay
fiefdom (though surprisingly not mentioned in the hotel
history). We gathered that there is an executive chef
responsible for catering in all the Barclay hotels. This
makes us worry that “Travel Inn” similarities will creep
in. We noticed that cruets in the Moinerie bar were
identical with those at the PC. Similarly the Moinerie
bar chairs were identical with those on our bedroom. A
loss of individual character would be regrettable.

Clearly there has been much investment & certainly
noticeable with a new very comfortable bed in our “usual”
room. The bathroom plumbing remains on the to do list -
getting an equitable temperature for the shower is still
hit or miss - usually the latter. The availability of
robes & slippers etc is welcome.

For departure the hotel previously informed guests when
luggage should be available for transport & also attached
labels indicating sailing time. Those who don’t know the
ropes may be confused.

In summary much is good. What needs to be avoided is
making all the Barclay hotels clones. Apart from the view
it was the individual character of the Petit Champ that
was a main attraction. We do worry the magic that is
Sark is in the wane.

“A great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

I stayed for four nights and cannot fault this hotel. It is a bit out of the way but that only adds to the overall experience of peace and quiet. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Some nice touches are the fruit and home-made shortbread provided in the room, together with a great selection of teas and a cafetierre with real coffee, finding your bed turned down when you return to your room after dinner together with a chocolate and a print-out of the next days weather forecast. I was travelling on my own but booked a double room with a balcony - the room was spacious with plenty of storage and the view over to Guernsey was a bonus. This was my first visit to PC but it definitely won't be my last.

Room Tip: I had room 9 which is great - a double with a balcony and fantastic views.

“Still Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

Having been a long time visitor to the PC I was a little apprehensive following a change of management but my reservations were unfounded. The hotel standards are very good, the staff are obliging, friendly and helpful. My only reservation was Dinner which although cooked and presented to a very high standard, is VERY nouveau cousine and the portions would not suit anyone with a hearty appetite! However, if extra portions are required these were happily provided.
