“For sure don't visit that awful Tea Garden”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

I do not advise the tea garden for afternoon teas (outrageously expensive; 5.95 for two small scones) unless you are ready to wait for hours; and you are not afraid by dirty toilets, wahing machines on, smelling shoes and laundry lying on the floor at the entrance. Not mentioning the scandalous state of the toilet (no toilet paper and dirty toilet bowl...), after having crossed all that awful mess !

Clos de Vaul Creux, the perfect place to avoid, believe me!

K.

“An enjoyable, relaxing family holiday for three generations with ages from 21 to 80 years old.”

Leigh and her two sons, Luke and Jaime, helped make our holiday great for everyone.
The central location of Clos du Vaux Creux, meant it was easy for everyone to reach the centre of the village with its restaurants and shops, while the lovely large garden with the added bonus of coffee and cream teas was also enjoyed on many occasions. On the very few breezy days it was always possible to find a warm spot in the sun.

Our food was excellent, with Leigh providing a wide range of excellent cooked breakfasts accompanied by an almost endless supply of the best croissants and coffee on the island. Leigh also offers dinners on request and her excellent evening cooking was enjoyed by the whole family on a number of occasions. The honesty bar with its selection of wines, beers and spirits meant we had restaurant quality meals in a relaxed home atmosphere.

Leigh really tried to ensure we got the most from our stay, recommending and even setting up trips on request (we agree Georges boat trip is not to be missed). She even organized and delivered a fantastic grand picnic with horse drawn transport and an excellent home cooked lobster and crab lunch at a private location with one of the best sea views on the whole of Sark.
Sark was a great location for a relaxing holiday, our stay at Clos du Vaux Creux was very enjoyable and we are already talking about our next visit to the island.

“A wonderful relaxing stay in a lovely home with a gracious host.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

Clos de Vaul Creux is more of a boutique hotel than a B&B. Well positioned and beautifully decorated with the highests standards of cleanliness. The owner, Leigh and her two sons were excellent hosts and Leigh is a great cook! Breakfasts set us up for the day and evening meals were as good as the Islands restruants (which we also liberally sampled!). The sitting room for guests is equipted to keep guests occupied on the odd rainy day and there is free wi fi if needed. Comfy couches to sit & read, DVDs, games, internet and an honesty bar. We were looking to stay in a home rather than an impersonal hotel and this was ideal. The other guests (it sleeps 12) were great and everyone mixed well together. Leigh also does afternoon teas and occassionally a BBQ for guests.
Having read a couple of past reviews I have to wonder if they actually stayed here? We were looking for a relaxing, de-stressing holiday on Sark where we could walk and enjoy the wildlife and we got it. This was one of the best holidays I have had in terms of being restful. Would highly recommend a trip around the Island with George.

“What a shame!”

I think that Leigh is trying too hard to make a go of this place which is a shame as this comes across. She seemed quite upset about a negative review on this website on our arrival however I have to agree that the attic rooms are too small, UHT milk out of date (feb2011), breakfast far too late and chaotic, eggs overcooked or not cooked, shoes off, handrail detaching from wall, honesty bar far too expensive. What a shame as this is a beautiful place.

“we were warned !!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

We were warned about the lack of warmth from the owner and how true this turned out to be ! Greeted at the entrance and told to take our shoes off before we had even had a chance to introduce ourselves . The room we were offered was ok for anyone under 5 feet tall . The spiral staircase up to the room is steep and dangerous as the hand rail is coming away from the wall . The bathroom is not much better and has heavily stained carpets . The wooden door and frames had only been painted in undercoat and in some areas there was no paint at all . The noise from the water pump / boiler is incredible , more like a plane landing every time that you turned a tap on or flushed the toilet . Compared with our friends room downstairs , ours was more like a kennel . When we complained about the cost she said that if she was to reduce our cost she would have to put up our friends cost !!! Totally oblivious to what we were not happy about and did not speak to us at breakfast the next day . Needless to say we left and went to a hotel which was more expensive but was clean , warm and welcoming . We would not recommend staying at this guest house . Yes there are a couple of decent rooms but is it worth it at £100.00 per night .............. Most definitely NOT !!!
