“DON'T BOOK THIS HOTEL!!,”

As an American, a hotel is mainly used for 2 things...showering and sleeping. This place is not good for either. The shower has a box that controls the water...if there was any...absolutely NO water pressure. The trickle you get is either too hot or too cold...there is no warm. I have not washed my hair all week...UGH!!! Taking a sponge bath is actually EASIER...
Sleeping...a lumpy in dire need of replacement mattress with a huge outta place 4 poster bed frame. Tasteless mirrors everywhere...too much clutter in a super tiny room...and we had the BIG room...
Breakfast...pay to eat elsewhere.
This hotel does not deserve any stars. But in fairness, the housekeeping was good.
Tried to cancel...that was a useless endeavor.

“Don't stay here...”

Me and my friend were looking online for a nice b&b to stay in for an overnight trip to Cambridge for my birthday. Brooklands website is lovely and didn't mind paying £68 as it looked so nice. Included in this price was supposedly central heating, telephones, free wifi, freeview tv.
When we arrived we had to ring to see where to park as there were no signs to a car park. You have to park on the vets car park which is poorly lit and quite a walk from the b&b. On arrival we were not even asked names, just taken to our twin room which turned out to be the tiniest attic room! The banister was loose walking up to it! You could only stand up in the middle of the room. The central heating was in fact a very small oil radiator which didn't give a lot of heat (we were so cold). The tv did not work! The furniture was dirty and dusty and the only way of having my beside lamp plugged in was by stretching an extension lead from under the other bed (which I tripped over!). The tap in the shower room didn't work, and this was the only place to hang coats (in the shower/toliet room) not nice!!
The continental breakfast was cereal and toast - very basic!
The decor was very over the top, mirrors everywhere, not my taste and not how the website looks.
When pointing out how disappointed we were, we had no apology. Not a friendly woman!
Overall a very disappointing experience, we did consider not staying but she had taken my friends card details prior to booking. My friend also cancelled her card after as on other reviews we read she had taken extra service charges that were not mentioned on booking/payments.
Don't stay here!

“Don't stay here unless you really are looking for absolute basics”

I had arranged a surprise night away for my husband to Cambridge to explore the beautiful city and take some time to relax. I wanted to keep costs down so looked to book somewhere outside of the main city centre (Brooklands is a 20 minute walk into town and is a bit cheaper than the city at £70 a night). Having seen the four poster bed jacuzzi room advertised I thought it sounded like a romantic cozy place to stay for our trip. How wrong I was. The room was very very tired and I was embarrassed that I had booked it. The decor was 'chintzy', the jacuzzi bath was small and a bit yellowy, there was an inch of dust on the cheap trashy mirror, the four poster was wrapped with off-white net curtains and the bed was so soft that when I sat on it and stood up it stayed squashed (I am 9 1/2 stone, so not a heavy person!).
In the end, we left without staying the night, feeling very disappointed. I spoke to the person in charge and she could only say that a 'bit of dust' was no reason to give any discount and that if we had wanted to cancel we should have done so 48 hours in advance (which of course completely misses the point since we had nit seen the room in advance). I didn't bother to argue as there was no pojnt - there was nothing 'wrong' with the room, it was just horrible, so I paid the £70 for nothing and we went home.
Unless you really don't care where you stay and you are literally just looking for a bed for the night, please do not stay here.

“A wee bit disappointed!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

Booked the room as i thought from the description and including breakfast not a bad price.... room was nice but lots of cherub mirrors, Jaccuzzi didnt seem to work and ran out of hot water halfway through filling. Breakfast was disappointing as offered both continental and hot and charged £ pp for the hot. not bad location but is a walkfrom the city centre, though we don't mind walking. Would not recommend to a friend tjough.

“Has good and bad points depends what you're needs are!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

Me and my partner stayed for two nights as i had hospital appts at Addenbrookes hospital. This is a summary of my review and i think a fair one:
Room: Good points: clean and spacious enough with choice of coffee/tea. Clean sheets and towels which were replaced on the second morning and room cleaned very well. Bad points: very very noisy road and no double glazing (request room at the rear of property). Only one lamp worked and lots of different ornaments mirrors which were a bit too much for our taste but gave cosy feel. Corner bath with no shower over (hand held shower) and no hot water which was awful given that i had hospital appt. When complaint made the proprietor was very apologetic and did let us use a room that had been vacated but not nice rushing around before hospital appt and running along landing with all toiletries. We had early appt at hospital so it was stressful.
Breakfast: My partner went down the first morning alone as I was not allowed to eat before my procedure. He said the continental breakfast was very good and was included in price. Following day we had cooked breakfast which is extra and i would say adequate but not great. The lady who served was very friendly and hospitable. Clean tidy dining area with more mirrors...
Location: great if you need to attend hospital = costs between £5.50 and £6 by taxi.
