“OK for a night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

On business travel, needed a bed and internet, and to be walking distance to other things in town, this fits the bill. The room was fine, although I had to turn the heat on so it was a bit cold at first. The shower is funky but fine, I think all showers in the UK are funky anyway. Breakfast was fine, but then again, I am no big fan of the "English Breakfast", how boring. The internet worked great, and for me that is up there in importance. The owner is very nice and I would stay there again for sure. Cambridge is a GREAT city, period.

“Great value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

I was in Cambridge for a conference and as a graduate student, needed to do it on a budget. I got a 'very small single' room, and was really pleased with the value I got. The first night I was given a large double room in the annex, as my single wasn't ready, but for the rest of the week, it was perfect for what I needed, a clean place to go to bed at night. It was quite small, the bathroom tinier, and the water pressure a little weak, but it was exactly what I needed.

Breakfast was always great, got full English every day. The service was quick. It was also a short, beautiful walk to the city centre. Anyway, it's nothing fancy, but this room was just what I was looking for, and great value for the price. I was a little worried after reading some negative reviews, but everything was just fine.

“Not bad, not 4 star”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

We stayed here in October during high season in Cambridge due to graduation time. It's a bit hard to rate this place for price-quality; we paid 80 pounds a night and for that money you can get a lot nicer hotels in other places in the UK, but we couldn't find anything cheaper in Cambridge and there were not many options anyway as we booked late.

The positives are that the room was clean, there is hot water, breakfast is really good, and the owners are friendly. Downsides are that the room and especially the bed was really small; we are both pretty small people so it fitted fine but can imagine others will have more difficulties, also with the bathroom which has the size of a small wardrobe. Main negative is the walls are so thin you get to know your neighbours really well without ever seeing them; however nights are quiet and we didn't have any problem with noise.

Jesus Green is about 10 minutes walk and also the Grafton Centre is 10-12 minutes following East Road, and Parkers Piece another 5. A taxi to the center costs about 7 pounds. There are some pubs and shops nearby. Internet at the hotel was free and worked fine

Without wanting to be too critical, the guest house is fine as a budget hotel but don't expect a 4 star hotel.

“Its OK, not 4 star but good breakfast!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

Stayed here 1 night, I would not want to spend a whole week! Owners are very nice and polite, breakfast is fantastic (choice between cooked, continental, vegetarian)! The place is not 4 star neither is the price! Rooms, furniture, carpet look tired! Good location 15 mins from city center. Great park nearby if you like to run (i think its called Jesus Green)!

“How Is This 4 Star?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

On the plus side, you have a lovely 20 minute walk along the riverside into Cambridge and there are plenty of nearby places to eat out. It is also clean. However, how this rates as a 4 Star accommodation baffled my wife and myself. The room itself was small, but was large in comparison to the en-suite bathroom, which was tiny; so much so that you had to leave the door open to get a wash at the sink!

The breakfast lounge was cramped, although the breakfast itself was OK, but there was little choice. The car parking on the site was so cramped, that I parked in the alley at the back for fear of being scratched or bumped; not ideal.

This is a functional place. We stayed for two nights, which is probably one more than is advisable. We had thought about staying longer in Cambridge, but this made our minds up for us and we came home.

Room Tip: Find another guest house.
